My kid got off waitlist Saturday morning 7 am, too.
She got into Letter and Science major that she appled, in-state.
She updated LOCI with grade 12’s first semester 6 AP all A and got two state level awards. Wrote 400 words on her desire to join UCLA and why she wants her major. UC GPA 4.26 UW 3.98 W 4.6…
If my regional representative is a “bruin ambassador” who most likely has no say in my admissions decision, who should I contact for LOCI?
Not to discourage you, but you were given a chance to submit a waitlist statement (not really an LOCI) with your waitlist opt in. It is too late to submit anything at this point. Although the above waitlist admits state they submitted an LOCI with their waitlist opt in, UCLA does not consider an applicants level of interest in their admission review. They usually want to see updated grades and new achievements more than an LOCI and will pull from the waitlist based on their institutional needs not just for showing your love for UCLA.
This is what UCLA states in regards to admitting off the waitlist:
AO’s say their selections are generally a continuation of the regular admission process, with consideration given to students’ original scores from application readers and whether their intended areas of study fill enrollment holes that year along with the waitlist essay and updated course/grades.
My son got off the waitlist Friday afternoon. He applied as a Computational and Systems biology major, in-state
Stats: 4.54 W, 3.95 UW, music extracurriculars, and had all As last semester. He is still debating between UCLA and UCSD because he got in for bioinformatics.
Good luck to everyone!
Congratulations!! If you don’t mind me asking, what were the rest of his stats? My daughter is applying out-of state and has a similar profile.
Thank you!
He is part of his school’s robotics team, organized activities for his school’s Asian Student Union club, did summer internship at Stanford in 2022, and volunteered at his local hospital. He only took a few AP exams but ended up submitting 3 AP scores, (2 5s and a 4). Hope this helps!
@Gumbymom - I’m confused:
If the AO’s state that they do in fact give consideration to the waitlist essay and updated course/grades, what exactly are they looking for in the waitlist essay?
Hi May I ask if it’s possible to get waitlisted for missing materials like official year 9 and year 10 transcripts?
The waitlist essay is in a way an LOCI where you can highlight specifics on how you can contribute to UCLA as a student. Not just a blanket statement that UCLA is your top choice school because of what they can do for you but what you can do for them. There is a subtle distinction.
If you don’t mind, can you give an example statement of a student contribution to UCLA or any other institution?
Any OOS student off waitlist this year?
You might want to PM this poster about what they said about contributing to UCLA. Usually you can discuss a specific program, courses, professors or unique opportunities that UCLA offers to enhance your academic experience.
I wrote about a specific program, courses, professors, clubs or opportunities that match with my interests and how I’ll benefit from them. I am not sure about what I should have writen about my CONTRIBUTION to UCLA (being just an incoming freshman). for eg: Should I have written something like " I’ll be a Nobel Laureate?
all I have heard were in state.
This is taken from Ms Sun’s UC Blog and it sounds like you did what was recommended. UCLA does not expect you to state you will be a Nobel Laureate.
If a waitlist statement is allowed, be sure to explain why the campus is right for you. For example, what opportunities will the campus offer you and how do you intend to take advantage of those opportunities? You should also reinforce why you are the right student for that campus. For example, what experiences, knowledge, skills, and characteristics do you bring to the campus and how will you positively contribute to the student body and/or the campus community?

You have to remember that it is just not about the waitlist essay, new achievements/grades but also your original application that they are taking into consideration. No one item will make or break your chances of getting off the waitlist.
If you are OOS, just a reminder that the UC’s have mandated an enrollment cap which UCLA has exceeded that the last few years, so it might take a while after yesterday’s SIR deadline to determine if there are any available spots for OOS waitlist students.
I just wonder if they accept any internationals from the waitlist. I have never heard of any.
Again it depends upon if they have met their International enrollment targets or not. I have seen some International admits from the waitlist these last few years. It is really hard to gauge since the numbers are not broken out so you can only go by what is posted on the social media sites.
HI All,
Today 2nd May’23 any one receive Waitlist admission?
Thanks,
