They will admit based on institutional priorities so there is no specific admit pattern.
I forgot to mention this earlier (because I ultimately didnât end up with great options, so I was really bummed out and didnât look at this forum for a really long time). But I was admitted off the UCLA waitlist recently on April 28th.
I also wasnât a âcrackedâ student. Iâll mention my stats from my application if anyone is interested.
Major: Undecided (to be honest, I think this is the only reason I got in)
UC Unweighted GPA: 3.86
UC Capped Weighted GPA: 4.34
UC Fully Weighted GPA: 4.51
ELC: Yes
In-State: Yes
Number of A-G classes: 22

Subjective:
Good ECs: 4 year varsity cross country, 6 consecutive marathons, SWE for 4 years at a big reverse engineering company, Link Crew, Student Council, among other stuffâŠ
Good PIQs: Talked about overcoming sports injury (in a way that doesnât sound genericâŠ), ran the PE class by myself, mentioned failing a class my freshman year but bouncing back, and so onâŠ
Demographics:
Small charter school located in a low socio-economic area in Los Angeles (the majority of students here are under-performing when looking at state standards)
First gen: Yes
Accepted: UCLA, UCI, UCSB, UCSD, UCSC, UCD, UCR, UCM, SDSU, Cal Poly SLO, CSUF, Cal Poly Pomona
Waitlisted: none
Rejected: UC Berkeley
I would also like to mention that I have a friend who got into UCLA from my school with a 3.06 GPA and there was nothing that âstood outâ on her application (I know this because I helped her through the entire application process). Basically what Iâm trying to say is that itâs just pure luck at some point really.
Let me know if any of you have any questions!
I was wondering what time was your email sent. Itâs probably not always the same but just curious.
Could you elaborate on what you mean by âinstitutional prioritiesâ? Iâm curious as to what that exactly means. Iâm also curious if the UCLA AOs even read the waitlist essays. I went all out on mine, but Iâve heard rumors of people getting in by simply putting âIt would be cool if I got into UCLA.â
Are you trying to ask what time UCLA emailed me to check my applicant portal? If so, it was April 29, 8:35 AM PST. About 6 days ago.
Any update on the UCLA waitlist?? Has anybody gotten off today or yesterday?
Institutional priorities will vary by campus but in general much has to do with the UCâs mission statement.
Here are the UCLAâs Chancellorâs goals: To that end, Chancellor Block outlined four overarching priorities early in his tenure: academic excellence, civic engagement, diversity and financial security.
Based on the schoolâs priorities, they will target applicants to achieve the outlined goals such as admitting more CA students that show a strong sense of community, students that have overcome life obstacles but achieving academic excellence, students with diverse backgrounds (economic and academic) etcâŠ
Thanks for the insight!
Have you ever heard an âinternationalâ being admitted from the waitlist?
Yes, but not this year so far but in previous years.
Has any one heard anything on decisions for appeals for Freshmen applicants being released yet or when they will be? I know itâs after may 1st, and I submitted mine on April 2nd
Last year some appeal decisions were released around May 20th. Appeals are reviewed on a case by case basis but you should have an answer by the end of June at the latest.
Does ucla release waitlist decisions in waves or do they just notify people individually randomly at any given time?
Decisions are on a rolling basis and seem to be only a few at a time so no waves.
Financial Security sounds a lot like Ivy League building endowments âŠ
Daughter just got off the waitlist this sat morning for Asian Studies, L&S.
In-state/LA Area
3.90/4.29/4.71 GPA
SIRd to Cal
I got off the waitlistâ:sob: I cannot believe it my wish came true.
OOS, 4.0UW, donât know weighted but probably 4.5ish
Poli Sci major
Got email at 10:57AM EST, 7:57PST
LETâS GOOOO - congrats to both of you!
Yesterday was actually the last day for me to submit my SIR after getting off the UCLA waitlist. Maybe UCLA pushes out another wave of acceptances based on who submits the SIR by the deadline once off the waitlist?
