I am a parent but my daughter just finished her freshman year so I guess now she is a second year! There have been hundreds of posts about Freshman Clusters so I would first suggest you type Freshman Cluster in the search bar and start there. Almost every question has been answered already multiple times.

My daughter took Global Environment. She got a couple of friends to take it with her. She is not a science person so it was a good way to get almost all of her science GE’s out of the way. It also took care of her writing II requirement. She got an A and now has an overall GPA of 3.9.

She enjoyed the subject matter and the last quarter she took a seminar about Southern CA. oceans and the human effect on them. There were only 20 students in it, including 2 of her best friends, and they took at least 3 firld trips to the beach. So overall it was a good experience for her. She also got tons of homors credits which helped her as she is an honors stuent.

The best advise I can give is only take a cluster if you are genuinely interested in the subject matter. And do not take a cluster that is in your major area. It’s best to let the cluster fullfill requirements in areas apart from your major. It is a bit of work as it is considered a writing class and you do get honors credits. Many posters here will speak negatively about them but for her it was a positive experience. She enjoyed being with the same students and profs/TA’s for the whole year and getting so many requirements out of the way. Only you will know if it’s right for you. Good luck!
