UCLa Honors College Invite...

Don't worry about it Diablo, honors is nothing special, and you can always apply after your first quarter (or anytime thereafter, really), assuming that you've taken at least 12 units and got at least a 3.5

oh ok thats good to know

did you take the act?

plus, what will your gpa be at the end of the year?

anyone know the accept rate for the Honors Program?

As long as you meet the qualifications they list on their website and write some random essay (I'm not even sure if they read this), you're admitted. Basically if you qualify, you're in, but if you're not qualified based on gpa or rank or sat scores, you can apply while attending.

^ exactly
I'm pretty sure they don't even look at the essay haha which is good because who wants to write more essays after acceptance? :p

i don't think they read the essay

I missed the mark by 10 sat points.!.but other than that top3%, gpa are fine

I hope thats the case icarus and jyancy!

Do you have to fill all of the requirements, one, or two?

What are the benefits of it other than taking "honors" courses?

^ And in addition, what are the overall benefits of being in honors, in general? Housing? I know you get library privileges and priority scheduling or something, but, is there anything else? Heh. thanks.

The priority it offers alone is a must have. Honestly, I don't think there are any other benefits outside that that are worthwhile to mention. No housing benefits from honors, but everyone now is guaranteed 3 years of on campus housing because of the two new housing structures opening next year (with now the addition of single dorms, but these are very expensive :().

Benefits of honors courses: smaller classes (around 20 students I think) for your beginning classes which probably would otherwise have been 100+, although as you move on to upper division, the number of students in the class will also decline.

trust me, you'll ABSOLUTELY WANT priority registration! if honors is the only way you can obtain this, then do it!

How else would we get the priority registration? Alumni scholarships and regents and what else? Is there any difference in the priority registration of these?

I guess college isn't all about a brand new beginning.

This is so weird. How does one get invited to the College Welcome Day, cus I was invited to that, but not the Honors Day. I think I should be eligible for the Honors program cus my gpa is higher than 4.0 and above 1500 or whatever it had to be, but I'm not in the top 3% cus I go to a private school. It seemed like you only had to satisfy one of the two categories but whatever.

Anyone currently at UCLA go to his/her College Honors Day back then? What exactly do you do there, and how long was the event?

Anyone care to comment?

Diablo, I'd apply anyway. SOme people with qualifying stats might be burned out from HS and want to party for the next four years!! Can't hurt...
