UCLA is my DREAM school. Help!

White Female (CA resident)

GPA: UW 4.0 W 4.45

Class Rank: 7/400

Test scores!

ACT: 33 (E36 M33 R33 S30 or E35 M32 R34 S30) Also, which ACT score should I turn in since they have the same composite?

SAT I: (Since they have to see it...) 2070 (710M 680R 680W)

SAT IIs: 740 Lit 660 M2 (sad, I know. I'm retaking! Should I retake Lit as well?)

AP tests: English Lang 5 Calc AB 5

AP classes:

Jr Year: English Lang, Calc AB
Senior Year: English Lit, Stats, Chem,

(My school has... 8 AP classes total... The other three [Art History, Latin Lit, and Comp Science] weren't really options for me as I took French and am severely disabled in both art and computers)

I took all Honors both sophomore and freshmen year, but...? I don't know if that matters.

Extra Curriculars! Bear with me, they're sort of varied and random and... I don't know. I love them all.

Dance:
For 5 (will be 6) years I've taken studio dance classes about 8 or more hours a week (includes ballet, jazz, pointe, and lyrical)
2 (will be 3) years: Member of Studio's Ballet Repetory (for more experienced dancers--like a younger company)
Part of the School Dance Company Momentum (Soph, Jr, Senior hopefully) that practices a min of 4 hours a week
Summer after Soph: Attended Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet's Summer Intensive for 5 weeks (danced around 6 hrs a day)
Summer after Jr: Attended California Ballet's Summer 2 week intensive (7-8 hours a day)

Writing/Journalism: I'm always reading or writing... I don't really know how to express that on an application (help!) but...
Newspaper: 3 years (soph, junior, senior) sophomore year: copy editor, junior year: people page editor and copy editor senior year: feature page editor (hardest page layout wise)
Soph: Won district writing contest for 3 entries (poetry and 2 response to literature)
Jr: Won district writing contenst for Personal Narrative entry
Won English Department award Freshmen year

Mock Trial (Soph, Junior, Senior) Progresses from 4 hrs a week to 20?
First year prosecution attorney
Second year defense attorney (we won district!... and, my half of the team won all our matches at state. Not relevant, I know!)
Senior year? Some kind of attorney. Maybe I'll try pretrial.
Mock Trial takes a ton of time but... I also don't know how to show it.

Interact Club (Frosh, Soph)

Played Violin for 9 Years... (I quit this year, I know it's awful.)
Was a member of the Youth Symphony for about 7 years.

National Merit Commended Scholar

Alright so, what are my chances at/which school suits me out of:
Berkeley! UCLA, UCSB, UCSD, USC, Claremont Mckenna, Scripps, Pomona, Northwestern, NYU,

And, while I love these schools, it's turned into a "whyshoudIevenbotherapplying" situation (give your opinion as to whether they're worth the application money and time!):
Columbia (I WISH.) Stanford, Yale, Brown, Georgetown, (Pomona could go here too), Northwestern's journalism school

Thanks tons! I really have no idea where I stand anymore... Feel free to add any recommendations for me!

your sat scores, gpa, and rank are very similar to mine when i applied last year..and i got into la, cal, usc, and ucsd so if you keep up the grades and write good essays you have a good chance of getting in. the other schools on your list i didnt apply to so i cant help you there.

A lot of my stats were below yours and I managed to get into UCLA. Keep up the work that you are doing (academic and extracurricular) and like devitt said, write good essays. I would say that you are competitive, but remember that you have to stand out of 47,000 applications.

What were your extracurriculars like? Do you think I'm okay as far as all that goes?

I'd also recommend you add Boston College to your list, since you're considering Georgetown. You look like a good applicant overall for all the schools on your list. Your good ACT score will make up for your SAT I score. Good luck.

you don't need to worry, you'll get in.

you wlil probably get in, but don't be surprised if you're not. most likely, however, you will.

yes, i agree, most likely you will.

happygolucky,

UCLA/UCB: Match
UCSD: Safe match

happygolucky7:

UCB/UCLA: Match
UCSD: Safe Match
UCSB: Safety

you're a match at LA/Berk and basically in at the rest...just relax

Am I the only one to spot this red flag?
UCLA dream school... applying to USC?
mmmm USC offered me that stupid National Merit Scholarship and I gave them a big middle finger. A small gesture of my UCLA love =]
