UCLA Linguistics and Computer Science-- a good major?

I was recently admitted to UCLA as a linguistics computer science major. No, this is not a double major, but rather a split major of roughly half linguistics and half CS. I eventually want to work at a tech company, so I was wondering if anyone knows a thing or two about the major and if it is helpful in the tech field. I know that a LCS degree would allow me to work on voice recognition projects such as Siri, but I don’t want to limit myself to just that. So, I guess what I’m asking is, is the degree marketable in other aspects of tech?

All advice/information is appreciated! Thank you!

I think it’s second best UC after Berkeley.

@DrGoogle I agree, It’s a wonderful UC and I’m super excited to go there! I’m just a little scared about my intended major

What you’re describing is a field often referred to as “computational linguistics”.
Yes, it does have applications to other aspects of technology besides voice recognition, such as:

thank you @tk21769!

Post #2, I meant for that major. Berkeley is number one.

I believe that major is good. It will give you a little of both worlds and will prepare you fine for a tech industry job.

It looks like there are enough CS classes so that you can get most CS-type jobs, not just computational linguistics ones.

I have a CS degree, but if I were to do it all over again, I’d major in a more applied field like computation linguistics, computational math, or computational biology. They just seem more interesting than straight CS.

that made me feel so much better. Thank you @simba9!
