UCLA New Student Orientation and Stay-Through questions

I’ll be moving from Kansas to UCLA on September 6th to attend the NSO on 7th-9th. (I’ll be flying on an airplane with a luggage and a backpack.) After that I’ll be staying through until my move-in time, which is 15th at 4:30-5:00 PM.
Questions:

  1. MOST IMPORTANTLY: how should I send my stuff for my dorm room so that I get everything in time without getting them lost or delayed? I have two 20'' - 20'' - 20'' boxes full of my stuff for college. Since I'll be moving into a temporary dorm room until my move-in time, I was wondering about what time I should ask my family in Kansas to mail my boxes so that I receive my stuff in due time. Also, do I have to get AND move my boxes exactly during the move-in time (in other words, am I gonna be forbidden to move my boxes into my dorm room if I get them late/early)? I am terrified at this possibility... I already have an airline ticket purchased. I don't think it's possible for anyone I know to drive me to CA....
  2. What official documents should I bring to NSO? the NSO website says I should bring "all official records I have received" and "Copies of transcripts, test score results and catalogs from any post-high school institutions." So I am thinking my official UCLA acceptance letter, session confirmation, test score results like SAT, and college course credits. As an international student I already got everything ready for F-1 Visa check-in session. Is there anything that I'm missing?
  3. I'll be staying through for about a week. Other than stuff mentioned on NSO "Things to Bring" list, should I bring anything else for the Stay-Through or not? (besides extra clothing, of course) What do you even do during the Stay-Through?

PLEASE help me quickly… I have only 4 days until I leave…

Hi, I’m a parent of a graduated transfer…

  1. USPS, UPS or FEDEX can get your boxes delivered. Use the tools to determine an approximate time to send. You’ll have an address https://housing.ucla.edu/my-housing/moving-in/mailing-addresses-for-on-campus-housing Call Housing with your questions. You should try to change your move in day/time to the earliest slot.

  2. Looks good. Official identification, all school records.

  3. There are several activities to participate in. There are local places to purchase things to bring.

Thank you very much, @Happy2Help !!! Now I am a lot more relaxed now. Thank you.

Boxes are going to be delivered to the postal center for your dorm, not directly to your room. If they arrive early they’ll just sit there until you claim them, so I’d recommend you go ahead and mail them to arrive a few days early and that way you can just pick them up on move-in day. The postal center can sometimes take a couple days to sort packages, so factor that in.

Also It doesn’t matter if you’re still moving in stuff after your official move-in day. Technically the only issue is that you get a parking permit good for your day/time. You don’t have a car so it doesn’t affect you. I’d even venture to guess that you could pick up your room keys at the first move-in slot for your dorm even if you’re in a later slot. Once you have your keys you’re good to go. If you can swing it, you’ll want to grab one of the big rolling bins that’ll be out to help get your boxes to your dorm.
