UCLA or Berkeley

Ok, I'm having a major dilemma. I've been accepted by both schools, and want to go into pre-medicine... Which school is better for pre-med?? I know GPA and MCAT is important, which is why i'm leaning towards UCLA (since berkeley seems way too competitive).

Please :D

Don't let the southern cali beach location fool you, UCLA is extremely competitive. Most students look at the university as a stop over to Law, Medical, Grad School etc. I would go where you want to live or if money is an issue, whoever gave you the best offer. Either choice is great but your notion that one school is more competitive than the other is dead wrong.

Another question: is the plurality of UCLA med students from UCLA undegrad? how many students does UCLA accept for grad?

Med school applications are a whole other animal. There is no specific number of UCLA medical school slots for undergrads. It is not like some programs (Ohio State, Northwestern etc) where if you get into a pre-med program and do well you can then go into med school automatically. That said, if you do well here or Cal, you will be competitive anywhere in the country. You might want to check this group out. I am sure Cal has a similar group too. Good Luck!

UCLA Pre-Medical Peer Association

for the best chance at a super high gpa, go to......Merced. :D

Premed at Cal and UCLA would be a distinction without a difference -- both are full of A-type players who've already earned 5's in AP Calc, Chem, Physics & Bio -- but will retake in college for a (supposed) 'easy A'.
