UCLA or CAL which one will you choose?

@flobot
it is, it is! i too hope to get in to the best public school in the world. damn. it is stressful waiting. still glad that california is the home of CAL!

Thank you Northbeach! I wish you luck too! If i get in, Im so gonna stay in the international house. I yelped about that norm ( funny coz now yelp reviews college norm too), many said its a great place to meet cool international people.

Yea… Ur right! The wait is kinda killing me. I keep checking my email even though I know im not gonna get anything until the 27th. So I keep checking my forum to distract myself. At the same time I don’t want to know the result, I am afraid if I don’t get in I’ll be so sad. Anyway hope for the best! Good luck to everyone out there. People who spend their time reading college forum should all deserve to get in good college because they care =]

I think everyone knows that Cal is probably hands down the better of the two in terms of academics.

But I would so choose UCLA. Los Angeles is just the heart of entertainment. Trust me, I LOVE the West Hollywood party life.

What is there to do in Cal anyway? Hangout with some vagabonds?

^ emily
i was checking the status every day, but now i just loiter on this site like a “vagabond” haha. love that word. heard that UCLA decisions will be out on the 20th. 12 more days. hope that is true–wonder if the results will be staggered like UCSB?

UCLA historically just posts all of their decisions on one day rather than in batches.

When does ucla decisions come out???

well, i have heard that they might all get released on April 20th. but time will tell.

well if dont like traffic then probably not UCLA. However the environment is much better than Cal.

Hopefully UCLA. I’m an Art History nerd/major, and since I already work at the museum in LA that I would want to move up at once I have my degree, I’d like to stay put. Just being able to have the opportunity to choose between UCLA and Cal would be amazing.

I took a trip to SF last fall! I actually quite like it. Downtown SF has it all going on! So from Berkeley I can take the bard there. Oh the italy restaurant I tried was so fantastic! Best pasta I ever had. Westwood sure has more event going on but I think Berkeley as a college town will also bring a lot of joy into my college life. Since you know people who hang out at the area are all from the same school. It will be so easy to make friends and network.

I heard that UCLA will release it on the 20th too. If I go there I’ll move very close to school because traffic on the 10 and 405 is just too much. I’d rather spend my time reading another book at the library or play video game than wasting my time in my car.

By the way, I really need start sending out my scholarship applications. Has no clue how to start writing the essay. Anyone has any tips for me?

I LOL at the people who say that Cal is better known internationally.

It’s better respected among academia and top employers.
It’s NOT better known among lay men though. Guess which constitutes 90+% of the population.

Here and now, I would personally chose Cal over UCLA, but I hadn’t even heard much about the place until coming on this site. It’s like asking people who’s more well known, OJ Simpson or Saul Perlmutter. OJ wins even though he might have murdered someone and hasn’t really contributed to society while Perlmutter has no recognition despite his Nobel Prize.

The people who say Cal is better known generally live in NorCal. The rest of the world thinks differently.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1082171-more-well-known-cal-ucla.html

I wouldn’t say Perlmutter has no recognition. The plot of an entire Big Bang Theory episode was centered around him, and it’s the highest rated comedy on television! Hehe

^ Most of those rankings are a puddle of pish… I only read a bit of the methodology but does it say that scholars are the ones voting on this? If so, these are people working for universities. Shouldn’t matter to anyone unless they wanna work in academia.

Just realized UCLA probably has accepted or declined me by now. Makes me feel even more anxious

I’m rooting for UCLA.

I think Berkeley ranked so high is because all the professors who is currently teaching required to do their research. And it’s contribute a lot.

Yay! Dream came true go bruin!

Congrats Emily :]
Yesterday decisions kinda dropped the level of anxiety, now I can finally start to get some work done! Haha
