UCLA or columbia?

should i go to ucla or columbia?

If price is not an issue and you're not as concerned with having a "more rounded" college experience then Columbia.

If price is an issue or you're looking for an all around college experience, the "total" package, UCLA.

If you want to do anything finance related I'd say Columbia.

Most definitely I would go to Columbia in a heartbeat! I know people say that you shouldn't choose a school based on prestige, but come on, it's Columbia! You will command more respect with an ivy league school. Plus, the academics definitely are better, especially if you are thinking of a job in the humanities courses. My sister went to Columbia for journalism, and she loved it there!

i agree with iamtooperfect ^
Columbia, because "it sounds better", as in it's an ivy and everything
my friend's brother goes there; he loves it.
AND it's smack in the middle of NY!

Surely you've gone to more than 1 school for UG in different rankings "ranges" and can back up this statement by saying the academics at school x were better than y right? I mean, you didn't just say something w/o having any proof of it did you?

I've been to 3 schools, one that's hyp level, one that's a top public, and one that isn't even in the top 100 and guess what? The "academics" at all three were exactly the same. You think schools ranked better have some vast source of knowledge that is unknown to others? You think that because somebody has a phd from princeton they are a better teacher than somebody else? This is my one qualm w/ kids who go to college these days, they think that the "academics" at one college are better than others...simply not true.

columbia issssssss ranked higher

but then again...ucla might be more fun while still having good academics

ucla or columbia. hm. ucla is a good college. or columbia is a good college. it really depends on where your heart is telling you to go: ucla or columbia. if you just asked anyone ucla or columbia, people might say ucla or columbia, but your heart will tell you one or the other. columbia is ranked high. ucla ranks high in some people's hearts. then again, columbia is too. good luck.

if the academics are all the same, then why not go for the one that has more name recognition?

Because some people care about other things besides name recognition? If you want to experience D1 athletics, a "college" atmosphere, and a vibrant social scene within college then it's UCLA hands down.

I just don't get some of the infantile responses on so many of these threads asking for advice on School X vs. School Y.

OP has not revealed anything about their academic interests, learning style, financial conditions, social style, geographic preferences, weather preferences, or anything else that might form a basis for an informed recommendation. what if OP is interested in Linguistics? Don't bother that UCLA has a fantastic program and Columbia doesn't. What about engineering? How about film history? What if OP is a big water polo fan? What if OP has a relationship with a person living in Irvine? What if OP just hates having a curriculum largeley pre-defined for the first year or two?

OP, if you'd like real advice other than where a school is ranked in USNWR (as it appears none of the posters giving you advice have actually addended either school), I suggest you flesh out what you're looking for in a school, and why.
