Hello everybody. I will enter college in the fall and am wondering which college would make more sense for me to attend: UCLA or Stanford. I am considering becoming a patent lawyer and so continuing my education in a good law school. If one considers the competitiveness of the two schools and of the major, which college would be better suited for my career path?

Either will work for prelaw. Stanford is awesome in physics. What about the cost factor?

Costs aside, Stanford.

Even if you have to pay more to go to Stanford, it is worth it. UCs are facing severe budgetary issues, and are having to slash funding in departments, clog up classes and fire professors, ultimately leading to a very impersonal undergraduate experience where some students simply have no option but to graduate in over four years. Teachers are far less accessible, especially in popular majors like physics, and you’re largely on your own, given the very bureaucratic administration.

Stanford, on the contrary, is not riddled with financial issues and has a much stronger support system to ensure you succeed while at Stanford, both academically and outside of the classroom. Plus, the Stanford degree is on a different level of prestige. UCLA just doesn’t compare.
