Im sure ucla paid that person a nice sum of california's grant money, which they should be using on counselors and teachers!

ps. i dont know how anyone can be happy with 300 + students, loans, and having crappy counselors + TAs.

Mojojojo, all I can say is, I get that you are trying to vent your frustrations. That is okay. However, ultimately, it is on you to make your experience at UCLA. That means you have to sometimes take the crap that life throws at us, and warp it into something usable. How you deal with adversity like this will end up defining how you deal with adversity in the future, and if you learn now- you will be able to prepare well.

Luck man, but you chose your own path now walk it.

please, shut up mojojojo. you think everywhere is ghetto. Come out your sheltered life and open your eyes.

LOL at the justin timberlake video...

Im not the only one that thinks USC is ghetto....

Far be it for me to defend Mojojo, but USC is most definitely in the ghetto. And the campus is nasty. I actually had a dream that I went there and got mugged.

But I also mojojo is being to hard on UCLA. You didn't even give it a chance! You are also really scaring me off of it because I am considering going there next year. I guess I will just really have to do my research before I make any decision.

But I also THINK mojojo is being TOO hard on UCLA

eddyx, I also think that i am thinking on ucla too hard; i might even like it. With that said, i certainly dont like some of the issues i already stressed (terrible counseling, TA's teach too many upper division courses, etc) so i really recommend you do your research before you end up like me.

PS. I am not the only one who thought orientation was terrible

go here and read some complaints: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=378748

haha I just found that thread before coming back here.

Yes, it does seem that orientation at UCLA is not the greatest.

I wish i would have known these things WAY before i even applied.

The thing is that most people, once they get accepted, they stop posting here.

so there is really no record of how transfer orientations went on last year. Now im the first voicing my opinion about how terrible it went and everyone is pretty much caught by surprise.

i know, but weren't you the one who said berkeley is ghetto? or that bart is ghetto? i've never heard anyone complain about bart being ghetto. what are you, a sheltered millionaire? lol

well either way, try to make the best of it at ucla. so what, the orientation went bad, just find a group of friends who can click with and try to have fun. time flys, before you know it, it'll be over :D

Were you talking to me? Just for the record, I never said Berkeley was ghetto. I did say in another post that the amount of homeless people in Berkeley is depressing and can make you feel unsafe at times, but I still love the bay area and I think it is absolutely beautiful.

USC, on the other hand, is NOT beautiful. No disrespect to the students or faculty, but the location is sketchy at best.

to tell you the truth, i think most people here will agree that if we were to solely compare the campus and its surroundings for the three schools (UCLA,USC,CAL), UCLA will turn out to be the clear winner.

ok USC is a good school but it's in South Central. The campus itself is safe but the surrounding neighborhood certainly isn't. If you've lived in So.Cal., you will know that South Central isn't exactly the best part of Los Angeles.

Many people say that Berkeley has an ideal "university-like" campus. True. It has kazillion cafes and restaurant along the Telegraph Avenue, but go ahead and decide to take a walk, it'll be very hard to avoid seeing homeless people making themselves comfortable out in the street. At night? It's the hobo haven. Are they dangerous? no, but... you get my point.

UCLA... ok not to make things long.. I'll just make some list:
-Bel Air
-Beverly Hills
-Santa Monica
-Sunset Blvd.
-Hollywood

eddyx, I also think that i am thinking on ucla too hard

Or maybe we're not as smart as you think we thought we were once....

say what laxattack?

dodgeball, dodge duck dip dive and dodge

beverly hills, bel-air...WOOOOOWWW

so much to do

oh wait, you need $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

half the places you named are lame unless you're a millionaire. what can a broke student do in beverly hills besides stalk rich people and feel poor?

When I was writing down bel-air and beverly, i was just pointing out the standard and quality of the surrounding neighborhood compared to USC and Cal. Sure you need money to do anything but no one can deny that UCLA right in the center of some of L.A.'s best area.

I guess growing up in the bay I'm more used to it, but what's everyone's deal with the homeless in Berkeley? Just last weekend my roommate in and her sister gave a guy a dollar to hear about the history of people's park. He took them all around Berkeley showing them the murals he painted and told them about the free speech movement that he was a part of during the 60's. Where else can you get a private guided tour for a dollar in the US?

I'm sorry but just because you don't have a home doesn't make you subhuman.
