So I know I shouldn’t care, but I was checking out this site JuicyCampus.com (which is this totally trashy site where students can gossip about other people on campus and what not) and saw posts concerning transfers. Here are just a few posts in response to transfer students:

“what gives, transfer students? jealous that you can’t enjoy real college for four years?”

“its not that we think you’re stupid, we just have no respect at all for you. sorry.”

“thanks to the transfers in my class who take notes, type them, give them to me, and then watch me kick their asses on the midterm.”

“the worst is when you have a group project for a class and you get stuck with a bunch of transfers...talk about dead weight.”

Anyone else turned off about transferring to UCLA now like me? I realize that UCLA is a great school but is it worth it? Seriously?

I wouldn't doubt that age/maturity has something to do with their level of thinking. Especially since they attended UCLA straight out of high school. That makes most of these people on average 18-22? There is nothing wrong with this age group of course, but for some people it just takes a while longer to move past this way of thinking...

isn't more than 1/3 of the junior student body composed of transfer students?

I'm sure those opinions are shared by a minority of students. I'm sure the people who said those things would find other things to pick on even if we weren't transfers (social class, etc)

This is an issue at Berkeley too. Snobbery is not a new thing in the world. I wouldn't worry about it. Why should you let obnoxious snobs determine YOUR life and future?

I agree that those posts are probably from a minority of students but that actually made me laugh. I can't wait to see the look on some of their faces when they find out a transfer is smoking them. And don't forget to compare student debt with them...although they might not care since mommy and daddy are probably paying for it anyway.

juicycampus is seriously the dumbest website ever. it's probably the same trolls who post over and over again. i remember when my friend at UCI showed it to me. the things that are said about some girls are really mean. so sad. i wish people would find better things to do with their time.

I can't wait to attend UCLA and show them a thing or two about how REAL students work :)

Me: "How many units have you taken before?"
Student: "15 or so. You know 12 is a full load! How about you?"
Me: "You know... nothing too big. Just 22 units will all As."
Student: faints
Me: "GO BRUINS!!"

thecalifornialife- you're comparing apples and oranges. i think the uc classes would be a bit harder. anyways 20 units, all science- 3.5 for me.

I think it's more the site than students. It probably attracts more snobbish students that wish they could say that kind of thing in public without getting called out. At least I hope so. Don't crush my idealistic view of UCLA!

one of my tutors, said that's exactly what happens. he got in as a freshman and he was calling out everyone who acts like thecalifornialife. hell, i do that too. lol

How would they even know if you're a transfer student? Additionally, why are you worried about this? Unless you're the sap who is giving someone your notes, students that have attended the school since freshman year are not inherently better off than you are in any way.

OH, NO NO NO! I'm not trying to be snobbish. I'm saying that this will be my response to those who make fun of transfer students. I'll ask them a question to make them gloat about themselves. Then I will hit them right in the gut with a good comeback. I'm not just going to go around talking about how many units I have taken. That is so rude >_<

Guyy,
You are right. There are differences between CCC classes and UC classes. However, I think I can justly compare my effort to UC worthy work. When my professors require a minimum of 2 paragraphs discussion paper on the topic during the class, mine is around 7 paragraphs long. I'm not saying this like I am better than everyone else in the class. I hope it isn't coming off like that. What I am saying is that I spend a lot of technically unnecessary time on assignments to prepare myself for assignments at a UC that will probably require the amount of effort I put into my type of work. Get what I mean? I get a lot of recognition by professors for this work and it helps prepare myself for much more difficult work at a UC.

You take whatever you want out of any class. I take out the maximum amount I can from each class.

So for many, CCC class work will be a lot different than UC work. Me and a couple of my buddies have talked to CAL students about the way we study and do assignments. They said it reminds them of their own work. For me, I feel I can partially, not completely by far, compare my work to that of a UC student.
