UCLA V UChicago

In terms of campus, prestige, weather, location, education, and social life, how do these schools compare. Thank you.

I would say Chicago wins in most of those marginally(except weather) but I picked UCLA cause it was waaaaaay cheaper.

^agreed, BUT, if you’re a pre-med, UChicago will mostly likely beat the hell out of your GPA which is something else to take into account. Not a good place for pre-med.

campus: haven’t been to UChicago, but i consistently hear that UCLA is one of the nicest campuses that people have ever been to.

prestige: UChicago (not by a crazy amount, but i’d say that in general its more prestigious)

weather: UCLA easily

location: depends on whether you want to live in the west side in los angeles, or the heart of chicago (never been to chicago so i can’t comment on which is better)

education: slight upperhand to UChicago (only if you want a lot of time with your professors, otherwise they’re probably equal) while UChicago probably has way smaller class sizes, i’ve never seen this make too much of a difference (anyone who really wants individualized time with the professor can usually do so)

social life: UCLA (while both are probably amazing cities, better weather makes for a better social life imo)

If i were OOS, i’d probably choose UChicago, because it would probably be a better bargain (slightly better education, more prestigious, probably wouldn’t deal with some classes being full/cut due to budget cuts, etc.) but in state i’d say the decision’s more difficult, especially if UChicago doesn’t give you much FA.
