UCLA vs SLO materials

I know I have other similar threads, but this is more specific and most other threads didn’t have good answers.
Assuming I get in, as I am not sure about my future career path. UCLA and SLO seem like good schools for MatSciE or MatE, and I really despise Berkeley even though it is strong in everything. UCSB also doesn’t have UG for MSE.
Anyways, I prefer UCLA over in SLO for everything except: class size, costs a little more (not really problem), no hands on, and engineering prestige- I am unsure about the last one.
This major is really unpopular which is why I cannot find many threads about it.
I heard UCLA has a bad chem dept., will this apply to UCLA.
I know it doesn’t really matter where you attend, as long as GPA is high, you have strong EC’s, internships, research, etc… for a job. If I satisfy these, will I get the same type of job regardless of if I go to UCLA or SLO?
Does SLO’s hands on experience part make it better, or is UCLA world class education good for materials science. Since it isn’t popular, I don’t which would be better.
Which school would someone most likely attend, if they got in?

worry about that if you get in
