UCR Financial Aid assistance please?

Okay I finally received my UCR financial aid package and after much discussion with my parents, with the cost of UCR housing it was impossible for me to live on campus. Basically I was offered $12,600 from the CAL Grant A, $600 by the PEL Grant, and $7,600 from UCR. But the thing is this is what I was offered because I chose on campus housing how much will it decrease when I choose to live at home?

You need to check with UCR’s F.A. Office – if you’re Pell eligible (as you seem to be) I’d think you’d be covered under the full Blue & Gold plan, which (between Pell, Cal Grant, and UC) looks like it should fully cover all tuition and fee costs whether you live in the dorms, off campus, or at home. I’d double check and see if there is any funding to help you live on campus for freshman year – that’s a big help in making your college start a success. Also, the Estimated Cost of Attendance is typically at least 1000 high – and might be overestimated by even more than that if there are dorm options that might include a triple room.

Good luck!

I don’t think your Cal Grant will change…since that’s for tuition (I believe) and you qualify for Blue and Gold, right? Your Pell won’t change. Some/all of your UC grant may go away.

As long as you qualify for Blue and Gold, your UC system-wide fees are covered (which in this case looks like the Cal Grant).

Pell is an entitlement, so they have to give you that. You may get less loans offered.

Anyway…since you can’t afford to live on campus, you need to just go ahead and let the school know.

In the meantime…go to the UCR net price calculator and indicate that you’ll be living at home and see what it does.
