UCSB DORMING/OFF CAMPUS FOR FRESHMAN

Hi guys! So I am an incoming freshman (woohoo go class of 2020!) and I just really wanted to know if you guys could help me decide on what to do. I would prefer on campus since I am a freshman and want dorm life experience, but i really want a single dorm. But it’s usually provided to students who have disabilities and/or is extremely hard to get.

ucsb recently sent an email about Tropicana Del norte, and is off campus with single dorms available. I am really interested but I haven’t seen many reviews on Tropicana Del Norte so I’m really not sure if I want to dorm there.

It would be really helpful if any of you guys could share your experience living there as a freshman and give me advice on what to do! Thanks in advance

Hi! Tropicana Del Norte was recently purchased by UCSB. It used to be for UCSB athletes, I believe. It’s definitely not a traditional dorm - it kind of has a motel feel due to the outdoor hallways and the fact that the building surrounds a large pool. Additionally, the “single” room option is absolutely tiny - I believe it’s 100 square feet. It definitely wasn’t a traditional dorm in the past, but now that it’s owned by UCSB it might be more like that!
