UCSB Economics?

I am taking Econ 1 (intro to microeconomics) this upcoming term and I heard that econ classes at SB tend to be pretty competitive. Considering that i have no prior experience with economics, what should i do to prepare myself for the class so that i can get a good grade in it?

If you want a headstart, go on khanacademy.org and look at all the videos about microeconomics. There’s nothing better than knowing everything your class teaches before setting foot into the classroom. Sal’s math/science videos are boring but I enjoy his economics videos.

buy the txtbook assigned right now and read

Hi! I’m taking the same course and just like you I’ve never taken economics. But economics is one of the offered courses available for the free tutoring at UCSB! So I would suggest you sign up for that since it is free! Hope it helps! :)

to above poster, where do you sign up for this free tutoring??

Okay, so CLAS, the free tutoring starts to enroll students in their workshops at 12 on the first day of classes. However, I myself am a little confused on it too. But here’s there website if you want to check it out!

[CLAS Homepage](http://clas.sa.ucsb.edu/)

no more than 50% of the class will get a C+ or higher…that is a strict policy

i’m definitely gonna check out khan academy and sign up for clas when the quarter starts. thanks guys!

Bit of a late reply, but IMHO the key to excelling in college is to have good study habits. That doesn’t mean spending insane amounts of time studying, it means doing the things that make the time you spend effective. You can find lots of websites with info about how to study effectively, there is a great book called “What Smart Students Know”, etc. If I was going to give one tip it would be this: imagine you have to explain the lecture to a friend that missed class. Go over everything, and you’ll quickly discover areas where you thought you understood what the teacher was covering but didn’t really.
