UCSB Summer Research Mentorship Program

Can anyone give me feedback on the prestige and value of going to this program? This is the only program that allows 15 year olds to attend in the country. Thoughts? Feedback?

Are you talking about UCSB Summer discovery? My daughter attended the 4 weeks program last summer. She didn’t do 6 weeks mentorship because she was only 15 at the time - too young for the 6 weeks program…

UCSB RMP takes about 2 rising sophomores per summer. I don’t know if this is a limit they adhere to internally or just the way it turns out. The past two years at least, one of the two has been a local resident. There is no 16-year-old requirement. But, 2 students out of about 72 is fairly limited. The wording on the website is “*Outstanding 9th graders considered and only accepted on case-by-case basis.”

I wanted my daughter do the RMP last summer. I was under the impression that there was no 16 -year old requirement, however once the application was posted - there was absolutely no way to apply as a 15-year-old. The age limit was posted on the application itself. I don’t know how the outstanding 9TH graders apply…

Odd. The application worked fine for us two summers ago, and I believe no special steps for a friend whose Class of 2018 son was in RMP last summer. I don’t recall any problems.

What was the program that your daughter did and what did they do in the program? @Lanaana

She did Summer Discovery http://www.summerdiscovery.com @Shitzu23
