hey everyone! I’m from virginia and I’m having such a hard time deciding where I want to go to pursue a communications major or business major.
UCSB is my top choice but I don’t know if it’s a wise decision to end up paying over 240,000 for college… It’s my absolute dream school though.
I feel like U of Arizona is kinda below my abilities but if college really is what you make of it, I should be choosing where I’d be happiest and able to thrive right? I qualify for their guaranteed 12,000 a year scholarship but I definitely think I’d be happy there with the nice weather, facilities, and sports programs. Would the ucsb name really be worth the extra 30k a year for undergrad??
I also got in to U of Florida and Penn State! I need to visit but Florida seems a bit too southern to me and penn state is way too cold… What school would you pick if you were in my position?
I got in to both for undergrad…honestly, UCSB is a good school and was really nice upon visiting, but isn’t that huge of a name that I would recommend forgoing a scholarship for. I wouldn’t say that UCSB is one of the top communications programs…business is good there, and they have some good connections post-grad. Honestly, no school is really below your abilities. Academics are academics wherever you go, and it’s not a guarantee that you’ll sail by. Depending on where you live, I would weigh travel costs and other factors like housing costs.
You can’t really make assumptions based on school rankings alone. People often choose schools technically below their qualifications because of scholarships, better programs, etc. Also, keep in mind that the UC system is VERY impacted. You may have trouble getting into classes, as I did as a communications major, and may end up studying for more than 4 years. That’s when the scholarship money, would really come in to play.
