My son got into these three UC schools (oos). His major is undecided and he would like a good liberal arts foundation no matter which major he ends up with. Any thoughts on which of these 3 UC schools is better for undecided and/or liberal arts? Thanks
What majors are general type of major is he considering?
If those majors are particularly competitive for undeclared students to get into at one campus but not the other, that may be a reason to choose the campus where the competition for those majors is less intense.

UCSD: https://students.ucsd.edu/academics/advising/majors-minors/capped-majors.html
UCSB: apparently no central listing; check web site for each department
In terms of “good liberal arts foundation”, courses for that can be chosen at any of them, but it may be more required if the general education requirements of that type are more extensive (e.g. if he got into Revelle at UCSD).
UCSB!
He is interested in Physics, Math, and Writing
UCSB is the easiest to change majors as the vast majority of majors are in L&S. UCSB has a college community, Isla Vista, where the students live.
We found UCI to be the most difficult to take classes outside of your major/department. I’m not sure if that is still true or not. UCI tends to be pretty quiet on the weekends as many people go home. There are kids who stay but it doesn’t have the weekend action that the other schools do. I’m not referring to parties but just activities in general.
Thanks. This was super helpful!!
Thanks. I will visit this in detail.
