UCSB vs William&Mary

Hi everyone, I’m having a very hard time choosing. I majored in Sociology (for now) and want to go to grad school. Since I’m international and do not have much first-hand info, i could really use some pros-and-cons analysis on their undergraduate education and life experience (like the atmosphere, greek life, and entertainments). I also want to mention that I got into BU, so feel free to include it.
(btw i like making friends but not through parties)

Any reply would be really helpful! Please and a million thanks.

UCSB has, from all appearances, a social scene that is hard to match. Our tour certainly sealed the deal for our daughter. The adjacent town of Isla Vista is amazing in terms of the social scene, too; lots of dining options, recreational options, etc.

Our daughter is going to be a Pre-Sociology major at UCSB, too. What a i would point to is the the fact that UCSB is very undergraduate oriented, including in terms of research. The campus has like 22,000 undergrads and just around 2,500 grad students. That means more research opportunities for undergrads.

There is a program called the Faculty Research Assistance Program (FRAP) that offers amazing chances for undergrads to be part of research projects on a wide array of subject areas.

Thank you for replying!

Haven’t attended but familiar with people that have. Generally, speaking of course, W&M students are known for being very quirky, down to earth, smart and nerdy but still well rounded. Not a big party school. UCSB is also a very competitive school with a very capable student body, but that’s not how I would describe them. Santa Barbara is not known for quirky/down to earth. Probably a lot more to do off campus at UCSB than W&M. Remember, you have the two extremes here - southern school in Virginia and a California school on the coast. Very different vibes. Both great schools. Good Luck!
