I have gotten into both UCSC and Cal Poly SLO with a major in anthropology with a , the major I decided I wanted all the way back in the third grade. My parents want me to go to UCSC, but I am really torn because I have a lot of people telling me Cal Poly is the better school of the two. Any advice? Cal Poly is definitely considered a good school, however, it also depends on your major. Cal Poly is definitely known for engineering and STEM majors, so take that into consideration.
" I am really torn because I have a lot of people telling me Cal Poly is the better school of the two. Any advice?" Yes I do have advice…do NOT listen to what “a lot of people” are telling you…look at the ranks and take a tour of each location YOURSELF and see what is the best fit for YOU and not all of the “other people”! Talking to your parents would be recommended as well!! Congratulations on getting into both…you will do well at either!!
Cal poly SLO is good for stem but UCSC is a UC and better for anthropology. Then again only about 35% classes are in your major.
Go and visit, sit in on a freshman English class as well as the intro to anthropology class, visit the library, talk to students, hang out in the cafeteria. This should give you a sense of whrr you fit in better.
@maxopsw my DD also looking at these two schools. congrats on these options! not easy…
Ask these lots of people how they know this. Have they looked at the qualifications of the faculty? Reviewed what is covered in the undergraduate curriculum? Some other factors? Or they just repeating Fake stories and rumors they’ve heard?
That said, the experience of attending these two schools is quite different. Let’s just say the students attending Santa_Cruz tend to have a unique attitude, and there are other differences in the setting and other aspects of the college experience. You should visit both and find out which one you’d be a better fit at.
