UCSC or UCSD?

I am wondering if I should choose SC over SD because I got into 3/2 dual engineering program in SC which allows me to transfer to Berkeley after 3 years at SC for two (BA/BS) degrees! The reason I am considering this is that Berkeley is my first choice... yet, since I got rejected from UCLA, I feel that I don't have much chance for Berkeley. But, I am not sure if this program is a guaranteed transfer even if I get higher than 3.2gpa for required classes. Does anyone know about this program? Is it worth going to SC to get into berkeley over SD?

P.S: I am only considering this option if I get rejected from berkeley and my appeal doesn't work.

I have no personal knowledge here, but I've heard the 3/2 program has been successful. UCSC is one of the better UC's for science, engineering and math undergraduates, but I know little about UC San Diego other than it is a good UC campus overall.

I keep hearing great things about UC-SD engineering. Cal, UCLA, SD, then Davis or SB. SC doesn't usually come up. And what if you decide you don't like engineering? Which school has better other options for you?
