UCSD academics in transfer

Hello, I am a student a CUNY Brooklyn College thinking of transferring to UCSD. I am very interested in their course offerings and programs, which the school describes as “rigorous.” Can anyone elaborate on what rigorous means in the UCSD context? At BC, we are kept busy in each course with (1) lecture, of course (2) a large midterm & final consisting of multiple choice & essay questions, (3) textbook readings, (4) one writing assignment of either a presentation project, or a term paper, or weekly short papers, (5) sometimes additional quizzes/tests, (6) and sometimes homework. In terms of workload how would that compare to UCSD, so that I may prepare if necessary?

In addition, the classes at BC are small & are taught mostly by PhD’s or grad students, while I’ve heard that some of the classes at UCSD are much larger and taught by TA’s. Has this difference in class size/teaching influenced your learning positively or negatively? Thanks for any opinions and information.

To your last point the TAs that teach (which is rarely) are either PhDs or grad students too. Classes are relatively large.

Thanks for the info.
