First of all TAG doesn’t matter for any of the majors in the biology division at UCSD because as it is, all of the majors in the division are already highly impacted. So much so that they recently implemented new limitations on the amount of students they’re admitting to the biology division as a whole starting this year (they plan to only allow 200 new transfer students for the Fall 2011 term). Based on your GPA of 3.24, I wouldn’t expect that you’d be competitive enough of an applicant to get into one of those 200 spots. As biochem at UCSD is one of the many impacted majors in the Biology division, I would say your chances of being admitted are pretty slim.

Each department has a form of that major that essentially take the same classes. If Earlarcon1991 applied to the chemistry department he actually has a pretty decent shot.

Snarik is correct, the Chemistry/Biochemistry major is NOT impacted. Even I’m sort of considering switching once I transfer if I like the classes enough. The Chemistry/Biochemistry major is in its own department.

Also, UCSD does not evaluate applicants based on which major they chose on the application. What they do is admit you into the University first and then evaluate you to see if you qualify for your primary major. If not, then they look at if you qualify for your secondary major. If you do not qualify for that either THEN they admit you undeclared and tell you to choose something else.

ok so am kinda relieved, hopefully i at least get admitted undeclared. I actually want the chem biochem…i love chem, not so much bio. But when i did the application i didnt check which biochem i selected. I recently checked and i clicked on the first one which was under Bio major. I thought about writting to them but since i know they first admit and den admit on majors, i thought i would b good. As long as am in i will change my majors if needed. Dont wanna go to medical school or anything. Hopefully i get admitted :/

^ i’m in the same boat as you. i’m a bio major with even a lower GPA more like 3.1 i believe. finished most prereqs but still have some left. hopefully i will get into the school as my 2nd major which is non-impacted.

^ Hopefully they dont come out with something or that i made a mistake and our Tag gets accepted.
I hope we get in even as a undeclared lol i put my second major to be chemical engineering. idk wat i was thinking the night i sent out the applications. Almost the same requirements and its not impacted, but its ingineering, so who know… i just want in… after that ill major even in plain chem :P

i was looking at the old UCSD acceptance 2010 and a bunch of people got rejected even though they had TAG, they had to call the schools to be reevaluated, hopefully that won’t be us

^ That year they made a mistake… they make alot of mistake with applicants… i was one of those people to be invited to their freshman admit day and later got an email saying we’re sorry… but i wanna go der for alot of reasons so i gotta keep trying… :P

Well, UCSB said they’ll start sending out decisions on the 21st… So maybe it’ll be the same for UCSD. Although, I have got emails asking me to correct some information :/

i’ve been having dreams i’m visitng my friends there…today i went to geisel to study with my friend and everyone looks so dead…yep im ready to die

sorry for the double post but can people stop posting jokes about UCSD people are serious here and everyone is stressed out. i dont think messing with people’s emotions is a good idea. and i feel like it’s jinxing ucsd and their decisions -__________- thanks.
