So I was looking through last years thread while procrastinating on an essay, and I was just wondering what message people had when they clicked on the housing part of their portal? I know it’s weird I’m sorry lol
Mine says that the housing application will be available in late March. Please check back. I don’t know if everyone’s message is the same as mine… Did someone else have a different message under the housing application?
@greatlake last year people had different messages and thought there was a correlation between one message and an acceptance and another message and a rejection. I just wanted to see if everyone had the same message this year or if we could figure out a determination system by using housing messages.
@mlegoldstein yeah haha I noticed that also looking at other threads! Was ur message the same as mine?

I have the same message as you two as well! It reads, “The housing application will become available in late-March. Please check back. If you would like to learn more about housing at UCSD, please use the links in the Housing menu above.”
According to these threads from last year (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-san-diego/1626461-please-contribute-data-to-housing-trick-statistics-2014-p1.html and http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/17038745#Comment_17038745) the messages were something along the lines of, “you do not have permission to proceed,” or, “check back in March/Spring”, and they DID have a relation to whether they got in or not.
The messages seem similar, but they might have changed it this year. I’m just skeptical because my stats aren’t necessarily high enough to make me confident in an acceptance. Hopefully, though, it may be foreshadowing positivity in our future decision notifications!
@raf1997 Same here! I have the same message as the rest of you that posted, but it also leaves me skeptical since I have low expectations of getting accepted to UCSD lol. I feel like after last year, the admissions people would have changed it this year to prevent people from finding out.
Or more importantly, does anyone NOT have that message under the Housing option of their portal?
I have the same message as the people above. I haven’t checked the housing tab before, but was it ever something different to begin with, or was it always that message?

@MountainScott All Jacobs School of Engineering majors are impacted, so whether you’re already an engineering major or not, you have to apply to switch majors. There’s a (somewhat complicated) explanation at http://www.jacobsschool.ucsd.edu/academic/academic_undergrad/my_major.shtml with the gist being that to switch into Mechanical Engineering, you can apply during the summer major change period prior to your second year.
If you’re admitted, I’d recommend attending some of the Biotechnology and Mechanical Engineering sessions at Triton Day, and potentially speaking to one of the engineering academic advisers. I can’t say whether it’s easier to switch from one impacted major to another—that said, some people definitely manage it.
To everyone else, y’all are gonna find out within a week anyway :stuckouttongue: For those of you who are admitted, the first thing you should do is go back to your Housing tab and submit that housing application (whether or not you’re planning on SIRing to UCSD).

It seems like everyone is getting the same message. They probably fixed it 
@seniorco2015 as per past year threads the housing trick did work and I do hope so, everyone who had the other message was either rejected or waitlisted in the incoming class of 2018 for UCSD!
The fact that no one has gotten the other message yet seems like an indicator that it’s fixed.
