UCSD Class of 2019 Decisions/Discussion

Got the call yesterday around 6 p.m.
2060 SAT (680CR, 700M, 680W)
4.29 UC GPA
11APs throughout high school
Got into MechE at Warren!
Congratulations to everyone who got in!

Hey all, congrats to everyone who was accepted! I got the call on Monday thatI was accepted as my major (International Studies- History) to Warren. I ranked Warren as my third choice with Sixth first and Roosevelt second. I know it may not be a big deal to some but I had my heart set on my top two choices. Is there anything I can do? I read that most students get into their first or second choices… :frowning: Has anyone else had this problem?

@groverrohan‌ (or anyone else who might know) okay so I got the call last night and I was holding my breath until she said I was accepted into Electrical Engineering. This is really exciting for me because it means I got into the Jacobs School of Engineering, but my first choice was Biomedical Engineering. Does already being in the School of Engineering help my future chances of transferring out of Electrical Engineering into another engineering major (namely biomed but who knows honestly).

Stats:
•White female
•2120 SAT (CR+M: 1550)
•33 ACT
•8 AP Courses including 3 of Physics, 1 of Chemistry, and 1 of Calculus
•2 Varsity Sports and 1 Club Sport
•Recruited Athlete
•Founder of a Non-Profit and over 100 hours of STEM related service
•National Merit Board Commended Student
•Valedictorian
•First Choice Major: Biomedical Engineering
•Admitted Major: Electrical Engineering

This is actually making me more nervous for my decision. People are getting their decisions already and we’re sitting here waiting with no news at all :frowning:

I know I’m so scared now. I have similar stats to those who have been called and I haven’t gotten anything. 31 ACT, 2040 SAT (610 WR/700 M/730 CR), 4.2 WGPA and I applied as a bio major. I had over 400 community service hours as well. I’m so worried

Just wonder do they call everyone who got admitted or just URM? Felt weird they have people nervous.

@AMH2015‌ they call URM’s, regents, and the top 30%

@mlegoldstein‌ I’ve an ACT of 30, UW GPA - 3.93, loads of ECs, leadership roles and community service. My essays are decent. Eng major. Makes me nervous as hell looking at all these posts.

@Digitallyshrewd‌ I feel you! and like if I don’t get into SD I’m gonna feel so hopeless for Berkeley and UCLA, my top choices.

@mlegoldstein I know that feeling. I’ve got UCSB too but getting into UCSD would be an amazing morale boost (even with UCLA and UCB left).

yeah, should we make the call to admission?

top 30%, am I on the list? how to find out?

@kitty1 No - they don’t want you calling Admissions. They’re busy enough. The official results will be posted soon - likely before the weekend’s out.

@Digitallyshrewd

Eng major? Would that be English or Engineering?

@StevenToCollege Engineering! But taking into account that UCSD doesn’t accept by major so my major choice doesn’t affect my chances, it doesn’t matter!

LIke I said before, do not stress if you don’t get a call. They do not call everyone and don’t even call all of the URM’s or top 30%. Volunteers get a list to call and don’t always get through the whole list. The majority of acceptances do not get a call and just find out when decisions come out on the website.

Sophie- it is very difficult to change schools. Each of the 6 schools has a different set of GE’s and the only way you can change schools is by showing that meeting the GE requirements in your assigned school would cause a delay in graduation. I wouldn’t worry too much- there is a good mix of all majors in each school and once you get there, it really doesn’t matter which school you are in.

@takeitallin I don’t exactly understand the six college system, what is it all about?

UCSD is a very large campus, so to make things more manageable, it is broken into 6 separate colleges within the UC. Each one is almost like a separate entity- they have their own dorms and dining facilities, their own counseling, their own administrative staff, etc. When students need academic counseling, the counselors in each school are dealing with around 4,000+ students instead of the total 25,000 undergrads. Each school has different GE requirements, so one school may be geared more towards math and sciences, while another may be more toward the humanities. Depending on your major, it may be advantageous to be in one school over another. In general, it does not seem to make that much difference. My son is a physiology/neuroscience major in ERC, which is a very humanities heavy college. He was upset at first because he didn’t want to take the 5-quarter “Making of the Modern World” series that is required by ERC, but he has found that he really enjoys it and has opened up some new areas of interest for him. No matter what college you are in, you will end up taking some of your classes right within your college, and will also have classes in other colleges. When you graduate, your diploma will show UCSD,not the separate college you are in. Some people like certain colleges because of the location or because supposedly they are more or less social, but it is not as big a deal as it seems like it is when you are first applying.

Sixth College is the newest college. It will probably be renamed at some point if they ever have to have a “7th college” to accomodate increased enrollment.

@Digitallyshrewd‌ UCSD doesn’t accept by major? Even if it’s impacted?

^^^Correct. If they want a student and the major is impacted, they will accept as “undeclared”.
