@surfingsocal I know zero about the surf team, but my grandson learned to surf while a student at UCSD and loves surfing there.
@Vibes4me UCSC is a beautiful campus with an excellent faculty. If your daughter does choose to go there I have no doubt she will enjoy it.
I already have a feeling I got rejected. Haha I don’t even have to look at the portal because what makes me think I’ll get into UCSD if I was rejected by UCSB? I probably only got accepted to Davis because of my mediocre stats.
My brother is on the surf team at UCSD and he loves it. Blacks has a really nice break and it really close to campus, he goes almost every morning.
@medstu1324 I wouldn’t undervalue the UCD acceptance. Last year there were students who were admitted at UCB who were rejected at Davis. If your major is indeed medicine-related as your username suggests, UCD will afford you amazing opportunities!
Who gets a call? Is it just urms and select engineering students?
@lilyfullford: Regents/Jacob Scholars, High stat applicants and applicants from Underrepresented areas get the calls. The majority of applicants will hear on decision day.
@Noliwat thank you for the encouragement but I’m pretty sure that individuals who were rejected at UCD and accepted to UCB is because their stats were too high for Davis
@medstu1324 I got rejected from both Davis and SB and got into UCSD last year so…
@medstu1324: Applicants that got rejected at UCD did not “fit” based on their criteria. UCD like all UC’s want a diverse student body and will look at the application overall not just stats to make sure they are able to achieve the diversity. You cannot compare the results between campuses because if each UC campus selected only the top stat applicants, then certain individuals would get into all the UC’s and many would not get into any. Some campuses but more emphasis on stats, some on essays and some on EC’s. This is why UC decisions can be unpredictable.
@Gumbymom thank you for the information, I just felt very discouraged when I got rejected from UCSB.
@medstu1324: There are so many CC posters from past years that did not get into UCD, UCSB and even UCSC, but still are admitted to UCSD or UCB or UCLA. Just Hang in there and you will end up where you meant to be.
@Gumbymom so high stats kids how don’t get a call are assumed waitlisted or rejected, yield protection.
@gzza73 no, not everyone who is accepted gets a call. Don’t assume anything until they post their decisions on the portal.
High stats kids could either be rejected because of yield protection, or they don’t seem to fit into what the admissions offices are looking for. I’ll admit, I used the excuse of yield protection to make myself feel better about all my rejections, but it is honestly more like the latter. There are so many people with high stats now that admissions take more into consideration than just that.
@gzza73: In the past, the Early calling campaign did include some High Stat applicants besides the Regents/Jacob scholars.
@j678jgpo well just trying to understand this process. How about perfect stat kids? No regents/Jacobs? Doesn’t seem to make any sense.
again, they look past stats. If all they looked at were stats, most of the applicants would be Regents or Jacobs scholars. They have their way of deciding that seems nonsensical to people not involved in the process.
@medstu1324 i relate to that a lot yay :/. i only got into ucsc probably because they’re actually good people and don’t yield protect. hate being rejected from ucsb…
@camille004 life happens, complaining about it won’t change anything. Keep a positive outlook on things. If you don’t get into any of your desired colleges, see this as a motivation to do improve yourself in community college, then transfer.
@gzza73 I don’t mean to attack you, but you sound incredibly entitled. College, especially UC, admissions are incredibly “holistic” and all about fit. It’s not just stats, but also the person you are, as well as the qualities and ambitions you embody. Each school has their own personality and they want students who are compatible with them, hence why they make us write, not one, but four essays.
Don’t lose hope! My son is friends with high achieving kids and no one was accepted at UCSB!
