UCSD Data Science B.S.?

Hey guys! So I’m a transfer student who is planning to major is computer science (or something within that range) and when I looked at the Fall 2018 UC App I saw that UCSD is offering a B.S. in data science. The major isn’t listed on assist or the UC transfer by majors page so I was wondering if anyone has looked into that a gotten more info on it? Or if anyone was wondering about that too?

It appears to be a new program starting this semester, so they may not be accepting transfers yet.

More information on the major is here:

I’m not surprised they have added this major, because a lot of schools have added it recently as there’s a demand for this type of knowledge. I highly recommend this type of major (as well as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, etc.) - could help if you’re forging a path to a career at Google, Microsoft, IBM, etc.

Since you’re not able to get the full transfer information, you might want to see if the lower division requirements match anything you have already taken. Look into these classes : Data Science: COGS 9, DSE 10, DSE 20, DSE 30, DSE 80 (twenty units) in the course catalog.

@spellingbead Thanks for the reply! Actually, @guineagirl96 posted the link for the lower division requirements but it’s just hard because the major isn’t listed on any of the transfer resources (like assist.org) so I can’t find out exactly what classes from my cc I need for the major. Also, I actually saw that UCI introduced a B.S. in Data Science in 2015 and I actually was able to find a bit more on that because It’s a little bit older.

What is your decision. Did you choose Data science at UCSD?
