Pure maths, analytic philosophy, jazz/funk saxophonist, board games. Please convince me.
There’s a student club where some cats spend their Friday nights discussing Principia Mathematica over a Monopoly board while listening to Lenny Pickett. But it’s at NYU.
Bummer, dude. Bummer. B-)
Rankings in philosophy, if you haven’t seen them: http://www.philosophicalgourmet.com/overall.asp These are grad rankings, so make of them what you will. Overall, the nod goes to UCSD for both philosophy and math, but we’re probably splitting hairs here for undergrad. Also check the course listings for both schools.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say the jazz music scene in the city of San Diego beats Santa Barbara’s. I’m sure you’ll find opportunities to play at either school, but with the rigor of a math/philosophy academic program, will you have enough time for this EC that it becomes a difference-maker?
Board games? I can’t see how either school has any advantage, let alone a monopoly.
So based on your four categories, I’d give a slight edge to UCSD. There must be other factors that come into play, though.
Have you visited both campuses? Which vibe do you like more?
I see what you did there. =D>
Thanks a lot for the comment. I’m international and unfortunately would not be able to visit any, so have to resort to the Internet. I was decided on UCSD until I saw the ratings on ratemyprofessors.com. I suppose jazz is not that significant but still. Also I just thought of another criterion: I am quite bloody set on getting a single room.
@ofmugs there are a lot of dope professors here. People use ratemyprofessors to complain and CAPE (cape.ucsd.edu) to appreciate. (Except for the gospel choir prof, who is in the top 5 on RMP)
