Makes sense that it is based on availability because I’m pretty sure they are fine with our GPA or else we would’ve been straight up rejected
Last year around 800 were admitted for comm and only like 300 enrolled? so hopefully they take that into consideration and admit me!! this is my #1 school
@BennyBograil yeah he said that as well, I think we’re all qualified to get in. It’s just depends on how much space is available and that’s pretty uncertain because it varies from year to year. However, he said in the past 3 years the numbers were in the 500-800. Which is a pretty good chance. Anyways good luck to everyone who opted-in!
Cheers! good luck as well
Just called admissions, Erin said that decisions will be coming out this month but on the waitlist confirmation page ti says decisions will be posted by the end of july??
“I am currently a student here at UCSD (no I am not a UCLA reject, I selected UCSD over both UCLA and USC). As the decisions are starting to roll in, I believe I must share this information:
Normally when universities accept students, they accept a number higher than the actual amount they want (ex. they want 6000 freshman so they accept 9000). They do this because some applicants get into their “dream schools”, so only a fraction of accepted applicants will actually attend. In this case, people tend to favor UCLA over UCSD.
Last year, we had hundreds of more incoming freshman than anticipated. As a result, we had students who had been selected for specific colleges (Muir in particular) that were forced to live in other colleges on campus in “overflow housing” (Revelle, Marshall, and Sixth).
This year, to prevent this from happening again and to compensate for last year’s influx, UCSD is only admitting people to capacity (ex. 6000 admits for 6000 spots). Since it is highly unlikely all of the spots will be filled, the wait list this year is going to be larger than it has ever been and there will be a great opportunity for those of you who are placed on the wait list to still make it in.
That being said, I wish you all luck! I know this can be a very tough time for many of you, but just know that although people like to throw big names around, college is only what you make of it. I promise you all will find your niche and you will have the time of your life.”
- Someone posted it this on the freshman waitlist thread. I’m not sure if it’s true or not but thought it was interesting and I should share it with my fellow waitlist members:) Hope it is true though.!!!
@BennyBograil I think they say that just in case some people get admitted later. But I think a majority of us will find out by the end of the month so I really hope we all get in :-SS
Yeah most likely around late May or early June. Hopefully it will be before the SIR date.
@lovelei I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if that was a factor. I was part of the transfer group for 2017 and housing was a NIGHTMARE. They didn’t anticipate so many students AND they didn’t anticipate so many people opting to stay on campus for housing (which tbh I’m not surprised because rent right here in La Jolla is no joke, ugh). As a result, many transfers were shoved into graduate housing (and were then forced to move out at the end of fall quarter because they were going to demolish that housing to build new ones??) and then some were put into freshman dorms, while freshmen were placed into the Village, and it was a mess everywhere. Not only that, they even had to offer an incentive for transfers to move off campus (I think it was a lump sum of like 4k?) to open up housing.
I can see the waitlist theory factoring into that. UCSD is so stuffed, it’s not even funny. Parking is also a whole other nightmare… 8->
@thinkweism so your saying since ucsd is stuffed there not gunna let many waitlisters in?
It better come out by the SIR date, because otherwise I really need to figure out housing if I’m SB or SD and I’m not waiting until after the housing application deadline for SD to come out.
@BennyBograil I’m not an admissions officer so I couldn’t say anything more than idk. I was surprised at how many people were waitlisted and just flat out rejected, but could opt into the waitlist. They might have done such a huge waitlist because they’re waiting to see how many students (who were accepted, freshmen and transfers alike) SIR by the anticipated dates? And also I believe housing for the following academic year was just opened up not too long ago so I can’t say it would be a surprise if that’s what they’re waiting for before they start rolling out acceptances or accepting appeals. It would give them a cushion for being able to determine how many they can admit into each individual college (which is how you’re accepted in the first place afaik).
UCSD is a mess, I won’t even lie. Just don’t give up hope, but I wouldn’t expect a miracle… as messed up as it sounds. But if your stats are good, I would appeal as much as I could. Everyone deserves a shot & spot here tbh.
@hailey5799 I am in the same boat as you! Ucsd and ucsb are both my #1 schools but for housing for ucsb it seems already taking and for ucsd at least there telling us pretty soon. If ucsb waitlist comes out end of July we’ll all leases in SB start July 1st so?? I’m kinda in a predictament.
I am waitlisted for UCSD, UCLA, UCI, and UCSB… I have been dying I really I hope I get into one. Does anyone know when UCSD waitlist comes out for transfer students?
@Highhistoryhopes I already found a potential roommate, the only reason I haven’t SIRed or looked into housing with her at UCSB is because we’re both on my waitlist decision. I mean I wouldn’t fault her for finding a different roommate and rooming with someone else not to mention the housing deposit and deadline for transfers is the 15th of June. I can’t wait till end of July.
Hey, all. Here are my Stats:
Transferring from CCC in the Bay Area
Major: mathematics economics
GPA: 3.83
Note: international student
IGETC: Complete by spring semester 2018
Pre-reqs: Complete by spring semester 2018
It kinda surprised me when I checked my UCSD result…because I think my Gpa is enough to get in this major,
and I get a lot ECs.
Then, I feel like that UCSD may not want international students this year, at least math major… Cuz almost all of my international student friends are on the waitlist…
Berkeley’s first wave of freshman waitlists just got released.
I feel like it’ll be looooong time until we hear back…
Why?!!!
im still on the waitlist but 15 minutes ago i got an email saying that I’m invited to UCSD’s exclusive transfer tour for admitted transfer students. does that mean i got in??
@AnthonyH24 I got that same email… not sure what it means :-??
