right now i have to pick between these 3 schools.

my major is bioengineering.

i got the UCSD regents scholarship but not for LA or Cal.

ive been hearing that UCSD has a really good bioengineering program (better than la and cal, 2nd best in the nation?). however, i feel reluctant to give up cal and ucla , very prestigious schools, for UCSD...

la and cal also offered me some scholarships, but i dont think it lasts for 4 years like the regents scholarship for SD.

so... which one should i pick?? cal, la, or sd... this is hard for me...

^^ you're leeching off someone else's thread lol

To the OP: although UCSD isn't as prestigious as Cal and UCLA, it seems to be the clear option. Not only is it offering you the Regents scholarship, but it's very, very strong in your major. With this in mind, it'd be stupid to incur debt from Cal and UCLA -- though you'd probably get a very strong education in BioE there too. If you'd really like a degree from those two, you can go there for grad school, but I think UCSD is the best option (given your circumstances) for you as an undergrad. That is, given that you like the school and are only considering the other two for prestige.

Are you majoring in cognitive science or computer science? Any other considerations, such as money, fin aid, fit, distance preference, location, etc.?

Computer science.
Well, money is not much of a consideration as I will get full aid in both schools.
As for location, distance, whether - sadly, no preference :)

I believe that I am going to college primarily for an education and that is the only thing that matters at least while selecting a college (yes, yes, I agree college is about more than just learning... :) )

Heh, well, from a purely academic viewpoint, UCLA's the clear choice. Have you visited each? Which has the best feel? Since you don't seem to care for distance, I can't see why you'd want to go to UIUC (many would want to get away from Cali), considering that UCLA/UCSD are probably strong in the field too. The NRC ranking for CS:

1 Stanford 4.97
2 MIT 4.91
3 Cal Berkeley 4.88
4 Carnegie Mellon 4.76
5 Cornell 4.64
6 Princeton 4.31
7 Texas 4.18
8 Illinois 4.09
9 Washington 4.04
10 Wisconsin 4.00
11 Harvard 3.94
12 Cal Tech 3.93
13 Brown 3.86
14 Yale 3.73
15 UCLA 3.73
16 Maryland 3.69
17 NYU 3.60
18 Massachusetts 3.59
19 Rice 3.55
20 Southern Cal 3.52
21 Michigan 3.49
22 Columbia 3.45
23 Cal San Diego 3.45

Given, that's over 10 years old and they've all probably improved their programs. So, for the prestige and the generally strong academics, I'd choose UCLA (since there are no other specific criteria you give).

UCSD is the one if you're really interested in bioengireering. Other than Duke and JHU, you can't do better. And San Diego is the growing center for biotech companies. SD kids have great access to the companies.

You're confusing prestige. SD clearly has the most for BME.
