UF AA Transfers

I"m heading into my freshman year at Santa Fe College. I’m walking in with 15 credits already, I just graduated from highschool this past June. I want to transfer to UF after completing my Associates degree, I have yet to meet with my advisor but I already have signed up and understand the electives and courses I will have to take for prerequisites for my intended major, which is Political Science. I was wondering what all will be required to make sure I get in after getting my AA? Like as far as extra curriculers go. I will be working many hours as a server while attending SF, I just want to know what I need to make time for in addition to keeping up with grades and work.

Not Political Science, but I can give you a general answer. Your grades matter the most, so make sure to keep your GPA above the ‘competitive’ level. I’m sure you know that already. As far as prereqs go, the second essay on the application asks for involvement in prereqs that pertain to your major. Having something to talk about here is definitely a plus. Since you’ll be working, my advice would be to get involved in relevant prereqs, (as many as you can handle) so you’ll have something to write about. Also, there’s a spot on the application for employment. Fill that out so UF knows you spent your time wisely. Good luck and remember, GPA is key.

@Breanna70 you can work as many jobs as you like while at Santa Fe because EC’s are ignored in the application process for AA transfers. Speaking from experience, Political Science at UF is terribly easy and the entire course load can be completed in 3 semesters. No worries!

Welcome to Santa Fe, Breanna! As previously posted, GPA is the primary focus used by UF and the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences when determining whom to admit as transfer students to the university and to the college/department. I encourage you to visit with your Academic Adviser to review your understanding of the requirements an to help you create an academic plan. In addition, academic advisers from the UF College of Liberal Arts & Sciences will come to campus a couple times each semester to meet with SF students - you should definitely take advantage of this opportunity to “check-in” to make sure you are staying on track. Finally, co-curricular engagement with major-related areas (for a poly sci major, this might be Student Government, Model UN, Model Legislature, Civic Engagement) has been shown to enhance learning and improve graduation rates. Consider finding a way to get involved!

Also I would recommend getting into the Honors Program. It’s a really wonderful program and you’ll be offered so many opportunities that could boost your ECs. Good luck.
