Hi i am thinking about transferring to UF as a junior, and I was just wondering if it is easy to make friends there. The reason I'm worried is because I know that people would have their group of friends they meet during freshman year, so would it be hard for me, as a completely new student, to find friends there.

If you are traditional college age you shouldn’t have any trouble at all. There will be lots of transfer students there.

UF has somewhere around 3,000 transfer students, each year (compared to around 6,400 incoming freshmen). You should be fine; make an effort to join a few clubs (including ones associated with your major) in your first semester.

You’re have as much social life, as you could want (which could be a problem!!).

Good Luck!

And don’t get discouraged if you don’t make friends right away. It will happen! I worry that I won’t find friends because I am non-traditional (34 years old) and was told by a professor that my major is 85% traditional students. It’s ok with me though since I’m commuting from an hour away and have other responsibilities at home, so I won’t have time to have too much of a social life. I would like to find people to hang out with/have lunch with etc between classes, but I’m pretty good at getting along with all ages.

okay. thanks!

Join clubs! There are over 900 organizations for absolutely everything you can think of. I am a nontraditional transfer student. I joined a bunch of clubs and have made tons of friends. Just be outgoing.

Wanted to add…during my first attempt at college, I went out of state and lived in dorms. Every semester (I was there for 4) there were new students and we added them to our group just fine. I was also welcomed into the group of students who were already there when I got there. College isn’t as cliquey as high school.
