My daughter just got accepted at UF. I come from Europe and do not know the Florida's universities very well. I assume, from what I have heard, that UF is a good university (one of the best in Florida? ranked 43 in US). But I also heard that UF (and other big universities in Florida) offers more and more courses on line. I would like to know the general percentage of freshman courses that are on line or in amphitheater (> 100 students)? Does any mom who have a kid currently in UF (freshman or sophomore) guide me?
I forgot to mention that my daughter is undecided about her major and definitely want to spend a semester in a study abroad program(during her sophomore year).

You should post this question on the UF Forum (it is under the colleges, subsection, F).

My daughter graduated from UF last May so I may not be up on the current practices at UF. She had very few online classes at UF and the ones that she did take were by choice (to free up her schedule). Most classes are taught live but also have a live streaming video component (which was wonderful when she was ill). Many many kids do a semester or a summer abroad through UF…they strongly encourage it and have many wonderful options. My daughter did a summer in France through the Advertising department and took core classes for her major while also exploring Paris and the rest of France. She got 6 credits while in France.

The wonderful thing about a large school is that there are so many options. My daughter started out as a business major before going into Advertising. She also got a minor in Anthropology. It is true that many of her early freshman and sophomore classes (the general education requirement ones) were very large lectures of over 200 kids but that didn’t phase her in the slightest (and she went to a small private high school). UF was a wonderful experience for her.
