So I have a decision to make. I was accepted into UCF earlier this year and was offered $30,000 to go there. Recently I was accepted to UF but have not heard anything about getting money from them. I am currently planning on majoring in business. This is a really hard decision for me because I have been a gator fan my entire life, but I love UCF’s campus and I have more friends going to UCF. If anyone has any comments or suggestions for me I would really appreciate it! Thank you!
Is that $30,000 per annum or over four years? If over four years and your family can afford it, go to the school you like the best regardless of cost.
The $30,000 is over the four years
UF has a FAR better college of business. If your family can afford it, it’s the much better option. I know it’s tough when most of your friends end up going to UCF (my son is dealing with that now), but in this case, you can’t let that influence your choice.
We did the 2-hour tour thing at FSU, UF and UCF.
My son is admitted to all three (small scholarships to FSU and UCF, none for UF), so money is not a deciding factor. We’re planning to revisit all three for an Accepted Students Day. Hopefully that will shed some light on things!
Lohy, congrats on the scholarship, that’s still a good amount of money per year! The UCF campus is really nice. I think you can succeed wherever you go. Good luck!
$30k is nothing to sneeze at. It’s tuition in Florida. I don’t think there is $30k difference between UF and UCF.
I am also a senior (decision between UF and OSU, however) and I would say try not to let your friends influence your decision. Going to a school of 50,000+ students means you will make new friends and won’t be confined to Ann already formed group of friends. No one knows your financial situation, but since I am in such a similar situation, it sounds like you are justifying UCF. I may be wrong here, but it sounds like you want UF because you have been a gator your whole life and its better, but you say you like UCF campus because you want yourself to really like it to make the decision to go there easier.
Maybe not if you are going to be a teacher, but for business or engineering, there probably is a $30,000 difference.
i am also having the same dilemma!! my family and i just cant afford UF, so right now I am just hoping that ucf will give me enough money to convince me to go there, rather than to stay in my state. I understand that UF is ranked higher nationally (for academics i suppose?), but also, people definitely like the feel of UCF better as it isn’t in such a college town that is Gainesville/more things to do
I think you’ll need a car in order to do the “more things.” I do like UCF’s campus though, seems very manageable.
