UGA or Mercer?

I got accepted to both schools but I don't know which one I should pick. My parents want me to go to Mercer because they think a private school is always better than a public school (that and it's closer to where I live). Which school would benefit me as a Computer Science major?

I came in as a CS major and actually switched over to Management Information Systems, but the program seems pretty good. I'm not sure about Mercer, but the undergraduate coordinator here, Dr. Everett, is a really cool down to earth guy that can answer any questions you may have. I would contact him...

I'd say go for UGA, only because its ranked number 59, whereas I don't think Mercer is at all in the Top National List. It depends on if you want a smaller school or a larger school.

Well, I do want a smaller class size but I also want to get a great education with opportunities for research and internships. Can I participate in research as a freshmen in UGA?

You can definitely do research as a freshman at UGA- I just attended the 2008 Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities here at UGA today and saw a number of freshmen making pretty awesome presentations. It's not only possible, it's highly encouraged.

Mike08, I am having to choose between the two also. I'm afraid that the UGA classes will be too large and I won't be able to receive the individual attention that I need. But the UGA academics have been rising exponentially recently while Mercer is still not heard of.
