UIUC Industrial Engineering

Anyone going to IE? How is the program rated? can you pl. share any feedback?thx. S evaluating IE

@click01, My daughter is a Senior in IE. She has been in the program since applying in hs. It is a solid program spending the first two years in calc, physics, and mechanics before taking IE courses in the dept. It is a collaborative environment and a small enough department where she has a relationship with many of the IE professors.

It is not rated as high as some of the other engineering disciplines at UIUC. However, it is a solid ABET accredited program. My d has had solid summer internships which she got thru the campus recruiting career fairs. When she compared the UIUC IE program with her summer internship peers, she told me her program is much more science heavy and she is glad about that.

Hope these comments are helpful. Has your S visited the campus? Has he made a decision?

@mybstnw, Thanks for the detailed response. I do see from their curriculum structure that it is a solid science and math focused program. Not sure why their ranking is at 15 while all other undergrad programs are in the top 5 ranking. I am impressed with the projects and startup references. S is undecided and he has a dererred admission from Georgia Tech for fall 2020. this make the process bit difficult. waiting for him to decide. thanks again.
