UIUC vs Wisconsin-Madison vs Penn State (Schreyer)

I have been admitted to all three, still waiting on Schreyer. I am intending on doing electrical engineering, and if that doesn't pan out, I also have an interest in biomedical engineering, financial engineering, and business/finance. As I wait for the results of the rest of my applications, I would like to have an idea on how I see these three schools. So which is better and why? And if one isn't necessarily "better", simply comment and let me know what you know about these three universities, overall and/or specific to engineering!

If you’ve been admitted to Shreyer and can afford it, I’d say go for it. Shreyer is one of the best honors colleges at large public universities/flagships in the country (Barrett is another famous one). If you’ve been admitted to the honors colleges of UWI or UIUC and those cost less, the issue is different. Is any of the three in-state? How much can your parents pay? (If they were vague and said they’d “make it work”, have the money talk with them because oftentimes kids whose parents say that end up learning that their options are unaffordable finally.) Because if PSU is over budget, the question is kind of moot. If you haven’t been admitted to the honors college at any of the three, which one is in-state?

EE at UIUC is a top-5 or top-3 program globally, up there with MIT or anywhere else in the world. Absolutely stellar program. If this is your likely major, you don’t need an honors college within the university (at least not for academic purposes – it may have some social benefits).

@ysharma What was your SAT score and high school gpa ?
Did you get into Penn State Schreyers?

You should try pm’ing the OP
