UK student chance at Ivy and top 20 schools

Hi. I know it isn’t as simple as Stats so I have quite a lot of sport and music extra curriculars.
My SAT score is 1310.
My SAT essay score is 19
My SAT subject Test for Maths 2 is 630 and for Physics 670
My A levels are ABC
My GCSEs are 10A* and 3As.
I feel like I’m being unrealistic for applying to Ivies and top 20 schools.
Can someone tell me what they think because I can’t decide whether to hold out hope of just move on with something more realistic.

You are asking about applying to Oxford-level schools (that take 5-10% of their applicants), with A levels that won’t get you into most Russell Group courses and SAT scores in the bottom 10% of admitted students. If your sport ECs include a recruitable sport, or your music ECs are particularly remarkable (say, international level)- go for it. Otherwise,

Your GCSEs are very strong, so I’m not sure why your A level predictions are so low?

As above, you wouldn’t think of applying to Oxbridge, so the same will apply to tippy top/top US schools. Are you a UK student? And sure, it is as simple as stats for the vast majority. The extras are after the stats get you in the pile. Appropriate UK schools will be at least as good or better than US schools that would be a match for you as an international. If you are on home rates it makes zero sense to come to the US.

“I feel like I’m being unrealistic for applying to Ivies and top 20 schools.”

Your SAT scores are very low for top 20 US schools. I agree with @Sybylla that the universities that you are likely to get into in the US would be no better than your local schools, at several times the cost.

While in many respects, the Ivies/equivalents are on par with (though fairly different from) Oxbridge, in general, they are even tougher to get in to.

I already go to the University of Sheffield and am in first year. I applied almost for fun.

Then you are a transfer student / odds are even lower. But - as you have already done it, there is no need for our opinions!

I’m applying for freshman entry. But yeah I guess I just wanted to know my odds. I’m just gona forget about it and concentrate on my Uni studies here. Thanks for the info.

No worries! But FYI, it’s not your choice as to whether you are a freshman or transfer applicant- once you have taken a specified # of credits @ 3rd level you are de facto a transfer student. If you applied & did not mention that you are enrolled at Sheffield that’s obviously dishonest.

I know the rules. I contacted the admissions offices and let them know and most of them said that as long as I have not finished my first year of university i can be considered for freshman. Others like MIT and Stanford said no if you’re enrolled at another place then you can’t apply freshman. Either way now I know that it’s very unlikely to get admitted so its not really that important.
