As a cadet parent, each death of a former cadet strikes a special chord of anxiety within me. However, Lt. Dewhirst's ultimate sacrifice struck even closer to home since we know his family and he was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Cambell, near us in Nashville.

May God be with his family and comfort them at this time of great loss.

As our firstie son approaches graduation, the parental pride and joy of watching him mature in the West Point Experience is increasingly tempered by the knowledge that his future may also require the ultimate sacrifice made by the thousands of our brave, selfless soldiers.

God bless all of them.

I had the pleasure of calling Nick a friend. He was a friend of many of my closest friends at USMA, so we got to know each other there, then he was my neighbor and roomates with one of my good friends at Cambpell, so we spent a good deal of time together. There are no words that can express the magnitude of this loss. It's hard to stay positive in this business when you lose men of such great character. I honestly dont know what to say.

ScreamingEagle: you are in my my thoughts and prayers.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family and mostly to you ScreamingEagle.

Nick was a great person, and good friend.
I knew him well since he was my best friends roomate at USMA
I feel honored to have known such a good person

I pray for all my classmates and military members, please do the same...
