I doubt it… for early action the last people to hear were people who were accepted into an alternate major. At least that was my experience.
Still waiting here. One son computer science and the other pre law. In state.
My son is also still waiting. Still under review. In state Computer science.
My son is still waiting. In state, GPA 3.87, ranked 4th in his class, honors and AP courses, mathematics; mediocre SATs, 1230. Eagle Scout, attended Mass State Science Fair all 4 years, last year 1st place at Mass State Science Fair, attended International Science Fair, 2nd degree black belt, 4 honor societies, community service, after school job. Also has a 4 year ROTC scholarship for UMass Amherst, deadline to apply to transfer that elsewhere is April 15, which means he may have to decide what to do BEFORE he even hears from UMass Amherst if he doesn’t hear really soon. My other 2 sons went to UMass Amherst but they found out in March, and their grades were good but not as many accomplishments. So what gives??? Local scholarship applications were due this week and have been turned in without knowing where he is going. I am flabbergasted at this complete level of disorganization and disregard for the families who are trying to make decisions and get financial aid and scholarships together. Admissions office just keeps saying a week, 10 days, 2 weeks…
@motherofboys3 - what major?
My S17 (in state) just declined UMass Amhers for Engineering last week - he had no scholarships offered - but D16 is attending there. He has opted to attend elsewhere - hopefully he has opened a spot for someone else.
@Motiv8tedmom23 - he wants to major in mathematics.
Also waiting still, applied mid December for Mechanical Engineering.
4.00 GPA, ranked 3rd in class, honors/ap courses, 1500 SAT (Perfect in Math), 33 ACT. Weekly hours of community service from three activities. Good amount of extra activities, leadership positions and also sports.
Wanted to attend the open house but probably won’t get the opportunity. Others in my class have yet to be notified either. One called and heard we will receive notifications by two weeks.
I have also yet to get a decision. OOS and applied for mathematics.
3.85 UW GPA, 1490 SAT
At this point I am considering UMass as a rejection and am probably going elsewhere. I am incredibly disappointed in how slow and random decisions are going out.
Coming up tonight on NightSide - Students waiting for UMass-Amherst acceptance letters @ 9PM - NightSide - WBZ 1030 AM - Boston - call 617-254-1030 or 888-929-1030 - Call in and join the conversation !!!
This is nuts - you guys are way too highly qualified for UMass to be stringing you along! Our D prob not going either - she got in EA, high stats, was told she wasn’t invited to CHC because she was Undeclared. That put her off. Also she did not get into several other colleges that should have been a match and was WL: I think what is going on is students are applying to way more colleges each year which means colleges are flooded with applications - hopefully more students will clear more WLs
Don’t feel discouraged if you haven’t heard yet. I applied early action. They started releasing decisions in mid December and I didn’t hear back until the end of January. I some how still got into the honors college majoring in chemical engineering
@desperateeplea
Do you mind sharing your stats? This is getting crazy. I was hoping the Dan Rea story about this delay would have motivated them to get more out over the weekend.
@dillon21
Can you give more details on the Dan Rea story?
This process is absurd! My child’s high school has close to 400 kids, we are instate, and not one person he knows who applied has gotten a decision…
Instate…continuing to wait

Still waiting for answers here too.
The students where I teach have not heard anything. My daughter was deferred and is still waiting for a final decision. We are in state. I know several students from my daughter’s school who were accepted and have no intention of attending (and never did)…used as a safe school…as of May 1st, I am assuming a lot of spots will open up…and those left hanging will have committed elsewhere.
Long time lurker, first time poster…
We too are waiting for our daughter’s decision. We went to UNH to an accepted student day over the weekend and there were many parents complaining their child was still waiting for UMass as well. They also referenced a radio show last week highlighting the topic. We are in state, with 300 kids in our graduating class and everyone my daughter has spoken to is still waiting.
I sent emails to the Chancellor and Director of admissions regarding this process. I would encourage others to do the same. I feel it is imperative for the Chancellor to hear this feedback in addition to admissions to ensure they are not keeping the problem swept under the carpet. Here are the email addresses as they were not easy to find:If we all work together, perhaps we can be the voice of change for the future.
Dale Hendricks, Director of Admissions DHendricks@umass.edu
Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy chancellorswamy@umass.edu
At yesterday’s Admissions event the theme of the Director of Admissions speech was “Say Yes to UMass.” I think UMass should “Say Yes” to these kids who are still waiting!!! It’s shameful that people didn’t get decisions before the accepted student day event.
My son applied to twelve schools. He has heard back from eleven - UMASS Amherst stands alone in not providing a a decision. I am left to wonder if this is purely incompetence on the part of UMASS Amherst or part of some sinister plan that I cannot divine. Given how irate the late decisions are making everyone, I am leaning toward incompetence. Instate. He has been accepted at Boston University and Syracuse which seem to be similar in many respects including competitiveness for admission - or so I would have thought. One thing is for sure, this isn’t your father’s (Oldsmobile) UMASS…
Dear student,
We are writing to let you know that we plan to have all remaining admissions decisions released by Saturday, April 15th. We appreciate your patience and understand how anxious you are as you weigh your options for next year. The University experienced another significant increase in applications and saw our most competitive applicant pool. Due to the volume of applications, it has taken a little longer to finalize and release decisions.
Sincerely,
Undergraduate Admissions Team
