Mine is still under review. I’m an International student and my first choice is Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I’m probably going to get rejected or wait-listed but I’ve waited this long for the decision so will probably wait for another day or two. It’s obvious that they are not accepting so many talented students just because of the inefficient Admissions team. Very saddened by how they keep sweeping this issue under the rug every year
Spire is unchanged- received an email.
Hang in there people. They said the final decisions should be out by April 15th. Only a few more days!! I hope everyone gets a nice acceptance.
It sounds like UMASS received a big increase in applications this year per their statement. It will all work out.
Good luck.
is there a certain time decisions usually come out? like morning, afternoon, evening?
I personally think the quantity increase is a cop out excuse for the admissions office since every university in america should know applications are exponentially increasing every year, and there was only a 1000 applicant increase over last year.
Is it safe to say that if we haven’t heard anything yet, we are waitlisted or rejected?
Daughter received waitlist email yesterday; Spire still says her application is under review. Guess there was ZERO reason for me to be checking Spire daily these past few weeks…
@NameTK
I completely agree. The level of ineptitude is mind blowing. Reason number 9,999 that UMass Amherst admissions process is a complete and utter debacle. Why did they make all the waitlist and denial kids wait until after the deadline to find out? My daughter is still waiting, but will be astounded if the answer is anything other than waitlist or no thanks. They follow the same patterns every year, but then deny it exists. Show me the acceptances coming out Umass to prove us wrong!
Agreed! My daughter had already decided to go elsewhere, but this last school still seemed to be hanging over her head, even though she had no intention of going there. The college process brings with it a strange psychology! It’s ridiculous that they’re putting so many kids (and parents) through this. Absolutely no excuse.
See post #11 of this thread from back in November. Sound familiar? The delays every year do seem disturbing, however my son does seem to be getting a great education at UMass with lots of career opportunities.
Daughter was waitlisted for History.
Has anyone heard anything about the chances of getting in starting in January? I thought this was automatic for WL students in “non competitive” majors.
I’m disappointed to see that the only decisions that are being posted here the past week are all denied or waitlisted. I had hoped the delay wasn’t an indication of decision status. Any acceptances in the past week or so?? Son is still waiting!!
Yes, my daughter had her portal change to accepted, oos and with a scholarship, on Monday. We assumed she was denied because it had been so long.
@washupper77 there is probably no indication of what the chances are for spring enrollment. This is the first year that waitlisted students are not guaranteed spring enrollment which kind of annoys me because it means i’m a year too late. Also, it’s the same for every student no matter the major because no spring enrollees are allowed admission into an impacted major. But I would assume they just have this policy in order to cover their butts and not overenroll for the spring semester. The reason being, there were 41,000 applicants last year and they guaranteed spring enrollment and this year there are 42,000 applicants. Thus, that 1000 applicant increase most likely won’t change the amount who accept to be considered in January greatly, it might even convince some otherwise now that it is not guaranteed.
Thanks for the reply. I also wish they had announced this change regarding the January option guarantee earlier.
As a parent of a current UMass Amherst freshman I am so sorry for what you all have had to endure during the admissions process. Let me tell you the whole University does NOT run like this. When my son decided to attend UMass I was so worried because he was coming from a very small high school, I was afraid he would be lost, just a number. This year has been amazing. From the Office of Parent Services to the Registrar to Resident Life and to the professors, they are all there to help and guide the kids (and us parents too). Nothing falls between the cracks. I have been so impressed that for such a large University the level of commitment and communication toward students and parents has been awesome. For those of you that have been waitlisted, do not give up. My son’s friend was waitlisted last year, then committed to another private university. A week after high school graduation (June 15) the email came that there was a space in the UMass class of 2020. His friend decided to attend UMass and lose the deposit at the other school. I wish you all the best and please do not view the whole University on this process. UMass Amherst is a great school.
I wish i had applied early action. It wasn’t really one of my top choices so i figured why rush, i’ll just apply regular and everything will be fine. Oh well i guess, ill make sure to tell my siblings to apply early action if they want to apply to UMass
This is the worst part. UMass Amherst is a fantastic school for its price point but their admissions process and advertising puts too many students off. It’s real unfortunate.
I think I will be denying my admission offer, which hopefully opens up some space for some people… I think I’m going to my state’s tech school, which I’m quite happy about.
WAITLISTED! This college application process has been really random for me! I actually applied to UMass Amherst as a safety school, and never thought I would be rejected/waitlisted. This has been the case with almost all of my safety schools. Oh well…I won’t be accepting the waitlist offer because I got into almost all of my reach schools even the IVY LEAGUE and some other amazing public schools like UVa and UNC Chapel Hill At the moment, I am convinced this process is anything but flawless. Each and everyone of the applicants in the applicant pool of every college have amazing personalities, the only problem is that the admissions officers are not capable of seeing these valuable characterstics through essays and scores etc… Good luck everyone!!
