I’m a resident of Californa and I received my acceptance today in the mail. It’s dated to March 7th, but it’s March 10th… so there was probably a lag time. Either way, I’m accepted into their Nursing program!! They also sent what I received for merit scholarship.

DD got letter accepting her into Biology program. OOS in CA with letter awarding her Chancellor scholarship
@Shoot4DStars - in-state
I live like 2 hours from Amherst (In-State) and havent gotten a letter… Hoping that isn’t a bad sign since people from California have already gotten letters.
My friend applied to the engineering program and hasn’t heard yet either. maybe it depends on the program you applied to?
Just an update that my D got her acceptance big envelope today too (same day as portal change). As an OOS in CA, she received award letter re Chancellor’s scholarship of $8,000 per year.
Still no update to Spire as of this morning; no letter in mail yet. Westchester County, NY.
My son’s spire account says UMass processed application on Nov. 11; so today marks exactly 4 months with zero feedback. He has been accepted to, and enrolled at, Penn State University Park – so even if he were to be accepted by UMass now I don’t think he’d give it much consideration. I’m not sure 4 months ago Penn State was higher on the list than UMass – but he so hates the concept of waiting he decided to accept PSU rather than wait for others. UMass is the only school of the 10 he’s applied to that has hasn’t heard anything from (2 deferrals, 6 acceptances, 1 rejection and UMass). Obviously it works for UMass since they’re not desperate for students, but gotta wonder how many good kids get away from these schools.
brucemag. I can top that. My son’s application was processed 10/30. So our wait is approaching 4.5 months. He was deferred and nothing since. The wait is endless for these outlier colleges… We are especially nervious because my son was waitlisted to 3 schools - which is their way (as I describe it) of kicking my son, sorry, the can down the road. I’m told that the private schools are better with turn around responses. Shame that we only applied to state schools! :-<
Wow, those are extremely long waits. We found out my daughter’s admission decision really quickly (Isenberg honors marketing program) but still nothing about merit or need based aid despite having filed the FAFSA almost two months ago.
We waited for what seemed like forever for an acceptance answer from U of Delaware so I can relate to those of you still waiting on admissions. Hope you get good news soon.
I kinda agree. I was a little dismissive of posters who say… they feel insulted when they have to wait/dont hear back/waitlisted. etc. but it does become personal after a while. If we got accepted by 1 school (other than son’s safety and he doesn’t want to attend) I would be soooo thankful!
I am also hearing that some schools are receiving record ## of applications (uh oh). That can only make the process even more dragged out. *SOAP BOX WARNING I honestly think the schools should coordinate applications windows and acceptance windows. Currently the system is NUTs - some kids hear way back last August, others have to wait until June. No wonder the seniors and parents are stressed!
My kid never did get an update on the website but did receive paper acceptance today…plus honors college & $12,000 annual.
Does UMass Amherst look at defered students later because right now on my spire its says deferred to regular, will the status chance to under review like others applying For rd
How many days does the portal say that your application is under review before it changes on Spire or you rec. snail mail notification?
aquan3123123 - I was wondering the same thing. It looks as if the deferred applicants go to the back of the queue. My son’s account also says “deferred to regular”, not “under review”. Also, OOS applicants seem to be notified earlier than in-state?
I have heard deferred to regular doesn’t usually decrease chances. It just means they only take a % under EA and for overflow they reject or if still competetive candidate move to regular where compared to others in regular pool. It does not pull down chances. Also, I have found university messages for many universities dont provide a lot of insight until decision made.
… So will they tell us that they are currently reviewing?
The UMass Spire portal is notoriously unhelpful with regard to admissions status information. Often it does not update in synch with the application status changing. Many students get acceptances via snail mail days, if not weeks, before the portal changes. There is generally no geographic pattern to acceptance notifications either so don’t stress out trying to read much into it. It is an unfortunately long process but UMass Amherst is worth the wait! Good luck
