@jefftaco no I was accepted EA. It just took them a really long time to send out the letters apparently because of the snowstorm (that is what they told me over the phone) if you got deferred i’m sure you won’t find out until march/april if that’s what they told you. I’m almost certain they don’t have a rolling admissions.
**Decision: Accepted **
SAT I (breakdown): 1970 (660 math 660 writing 650 reading)

[ *] SAT II: 730 math I, 620 math II

[ *] Job/Work Experience: No paid jobs
[ *] Volunteer/Community service:
Research/computer work for head of otolaryngology department at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital. Chose me to lead patient data management project, and he wrote me probably my best recommendation. My essays all revolve around this work. Probably among the most important parts of my app

Sports (4) varsity and JV
Science olympiad
Piano
Debate
Student gov

[ *] Essays: Pretty damn good essays, hired a past Dartmouth admission counselor current Dartmouth Med student to help write them.
[ *] Teacher Recommendation: 9/10 (one of them pretty much asked me to write a rec for me)
[ *] Counselor Rec: She said she emphasized my “diversity”… I’d probably say 7-8/10
[ *] Additional Rec: 10/10 from the head of otolaryngology at the hospital. Obviously haven’t read it, but I’m sure it’s really good

[ *] Ethnicity: Middle Eastern

Accepted into the School of Management! Also received a Chancellor’s Award of $10,000 per year.
@NewEnglandBound haha please go to UMass so that you can teach me Arabic and Turkish! I’m a linguistics major and I LOVE languages.
Congrats and the acceptance.
@Leyla98 thank you! haha UMass is one of my top choices right now but I’m waiting to hear back in the next couple days from my ED2 application to boston university so we will see!
Oh sorry about the typo: I meant “congrats on the acceptance” …
Good luck with BU-- my brother goes there and it’s a very nice school.
@Leyla98 congrats, and do you mind me asking what your stats were? I’m instate and applied RD and I was wondering what to expect with regards to merit
Also anyone else in state, did you receive merit? If so, how much and what were your stats?
My D’s status changed today from defer to review again. This is it folks! Fingers crossed to everyone who was deferred!
My son heard ED acceptance early January I believe. OOS, $6000 merit scholarship. 3.73 w gpa. Waiting on UConn still (in state). Heading to accepted students day next week, anyone else?
@pdubs97 No problem! My stats were…
GPA: 4.23 weighted, 3 APs; (~3.90 unweighted)
SATs: 2260, German Language and Culture: 690, Literature: 720
Extracurriculars: Language immersion camps, taekwondo (assistant instructor for a few years), model UN/international club
Essay: I believe in it, and I put a lot of hard work into it…
Recommendations: Very strong.
I received $2,000 a year (in state, of course) and was admitted to CHC. Haha I may very well end up going there because of how crazy tuition has gotten. It wouldn’t be a bad option, though.
Best of luck to you!
Thanks for sharing @Leyla98. My stats are similar. Hopefully I get in and receive a similar scholarship! That would be fantastic.
@pdubs97 Last year my D was admitted to CHC and got a $2k scholarship also (we are instate). She was 2000 SAT, 4.1 w GPA and 12/225 rank, 2 APs, if I remember correctly. She was admitted to Isenberg. Good luck!
@2018eastorwest. Schools DO make mistakes! Here is my confirmation…Two years ago my daughter was branched to UConn Stamford. She applied EA to all schools, was accepted to Penn State with Merit, U. of Maryland College Park, UDel with Merit, SUNY Geneseo & was awaiting UConn decision. Her stats: 4.7 Weighted GPA (4.1 UW), AP’s, ECE Calc through UConn, tons of EC, 1880 SAT. Our HS is one of feeder schools to Storrs. She didn’t hear when classmates started getting acceptances. Some that did get into Storrs had far lower GPA’s (up to a full point weighted) and still no news. Finally late March/early April she gets into Stamford branch! Well…we did contact head of Guidance at HS and she could NOT believe she wasn’t admitted to Storrs. She even called them. So we bit the bullet and called as our daughter was in shock she didn’t get into main campus. After talking to the phone answerers in admissions I finally got to head of Freshman admissions. Said UConn is holistic school. I said my daughter was pretty dam holistic and have they actually looked at her transcript and app? She said she would do so and call me following week. Note all of this was said without them referring to her app. Five minutes later she calls me back & says “did you know your daughter has a 4.7 GPA?” ummm, yes! Bottom line, she was admitted, is finishing her sophomore year, thriving, deans list and the bottom line, yes, they do make mistakes when going through 35,000+ apps for 3500 students.
Which is why it is always a good idea to call and ask. Glad it turned out well
@reenski-My son and I are going to accepted student’s day too. We are from CT. This will be our first time visiting. Had tried to visit in the fall but the tours were booked up. Looking forward to it.
Parents and students thinking of joining the UMass Class of 2020 - allow me to share some information with you about the Jump! Program! Jump is a four-week summer program for INCOMING STUDENTS IN THE CLASS OF 2020 to come to campus for 4 weeks over the summer, TAKE 5 ACADEMIC CREDITS, and become familiar with the campus and surrounding area through exciting and engaging co-curricular activities. The program is housed in the Commonwealth Honors College Residential Community, and students will take honors courses as well (that fill a Gen Ed requirement) however this is open to ALL INCOMING STUDENTS! Our activities last year include intimate “Faculty Chats” in the dorms with prestigious professors, campus tours, local hikes, museum visits, and lots of community building! Students leave the program with a group of friends, a sense of comfort on campus, and an excitement to return in the Fall! This is an excellent resource for incoming students, and our 2015 participants have given us wonderful reviews. Many of our past students are joining us on staff this summer, as well! Jump! is an opportunity to enter a community before you even get to campus in the fall, with a potential job opportunity for the following summer. For more information and student testimonials, check out our website at umass.edu/summer/jump or like us our Facebook page, UMass Summer Programs. I am a UMass undergraduate myself, and would be more than happy to speak with any parents or students directly!!! I can be reached via e-mail at bmparent@umass.edu. Myself and the rest of the wonderful Summer staff will also be at the Resource Fair on campus this Sunday to answer any questions!!! I am looking forward to being in touch with many of you going forward
hey all, congrats on getting into UMass!! If you’re looking for something to do this summer, a way to feel more comfortable when you get to school, and/or a way to get ahead academically, let me tell you about the Jump! program!! Jump! (exclamation point included) is a four week program for incoming UMass freshmen. you would spend a month living on campus in the (air-conditioned) honors college dorms and taking five credits of classes. The staff of this program is all current umass students (myself included) and we will be working to design fun and helpful programming for you all summer! we will be organizing events with organizations on campus (like the Student Government Association, the Stonewall Center, and the UMass Athletics Department), plus trips to nearby museums, local hikes, and into the surrounding towns of Amherst and Northampton. Jump! will give you a chance to make friends, learn about the area, and become connected before you even start your freshman year.
If you’re interested in the program, please check out our website for more detailed information, testimonials of past students, and how to register: http://www.umass.edu/summer/jump/

Hey everyone- I was admitted EA to CHC, biology major. I received $2000 merit, but was wondering when need-based aid is released. Should I have received something about it already?
I’m pretty sure this is still a UMASS thread ;-), if so, please keep in mind that many students are still in “defer” waiting anxiously to get into UMASS. If you know you are 100% not going, please do my D and others a favor and let the school know to make room for them at UMASS as their #1 choice! Thank you so much!
