The only people I have seen getting the 2K are people that also got honors college. Honors college has a $600 fee so if you subtract that the actual merit is $1400. I understand that every little thing helps but in practical terms UMass Amherst does not offer merit to instate students and I very much doubt you receive anything by asking.
Yes my son received CHC direct admission and the $2K scholarship.
I figure the 2K covers back the CHC fee (so why not just eliminate it then?) and books. I wonder if they just gave free books to CHC students and eliminated the fee how that would translate in terms of an offer.
Yes, I applied EA mid-October.
Thanks to all who responded to my questions about $2K merit in state and confirming it’s for honors college. Good point about the increased fees for honors college too. My daughter was a bit bummed about not getting into the honors college but knows she can apply later.
Thanks @drewcollege4! Yes, you are right, the Koplik. My daughter did not meet the eligibility for Adams but did for Koplik. She had to provide some more documentation on AP scores etc and then her guidance counselor said we hear in the summer about it.
Great! She will get it automatically if she met requirements and submitted docs.
My son received the Adams scholarship of approx 2k and was accepted to Isenberg but no honors college. We are instate.
Yes, Honors College and $2k (in-state)
My son got his EA decision in December. In state, 4.3 GPA, no test scores, good Extracurricular. No financial aid. I know many people with kids at UMass - no $ (my older son is currently a sophomore CS major - he gets the John and Abigail Adam’s Scholarship for MCAS scores - about $1700\yr - but that’s all). Still feel UMass is affordable compared to the completely out of hand private schools! Very happy with UMass
@capecod373 Great to hear your son has been having a good experience at UMass! It is most likely daughter’s #2 choice if her first choice doesn’t come through.
Congratulations do you mind o share your GPA and SAT?
Does anyone receive an Adams Scholarship letter yet this year?
(Adams scholarships are from the state and just for MA students. It is a tuition credit good at in-state schools. Awarded based on MCAS scores.)
My son, who is a senior, got the letter in October 2020.
We did as well. It was sent from her High School. I am wondering if this can also be combined with another scholarship my daughter received for Isenberg? Or is it if we accept the larger scholarship we forego the Adams?
Yes, my son received his Adams Scholarship letter.
I was actually thinking about the Koplik tuition credit. (D17 got the Adams so I got confused). D21 qualifies for the Koplik but did not get a letter. I know it is not automatic like the Adams & requires additional documents, but should she have received a letter for the Koplik?
Our school got the list of students who qualified in October and sent the application to students on 11/30. It’s due May 1st. Koplik and Adams are worth the same amount and you can’t use both. But Koplik you have to apply for and jump through a few additional hoops and Adams you just get for MCAS performance.
Our high school mailed the Koplik letter more in the beginning of the school year of daughter’s senior year. We filled out the form and provided the documentation and handed that in to the guidance counselor. The guid counselor said we would get a letter in the mail in the summer, which I’m assuming that you then provide to UMass. If anyone was told differently please post!
Based on prior years, what could be the likely dates in May/June 2021 when UMass Amherst would release decisions on waitlisted students? Would such decisions be released between May 15th and May 31st, OR, can they drag into June/July?
