Is there any real advantage to applying early to UMass besides finding out sooner? Any difference with regards to honors college selectivity, financial aid awards, or overall admission rates?
Finding out sooner is a significant advantage.
If you get admitted with affordability early, it becomes a safety, so you no longer need to apply to any colleges that are less desirable.
If you get rejected or deferred, that may provide some useful information that may inform any subsequent changes in your college application list.
