I’m a current senior and trying to decide where to go to college. I’m gonna start with: I am determined to be a doctor. I got into a lot of good schools but i’ve basically narrowed it down to two: UMass Amherst and Belmont University. Here are the pros/cons from my view, I’d really appreciate it if people could weigh them for me.
UMass Amherst:
-my instate flagship
-biochemistry and molecular biology major
-possibly minor in kinesiology (i’m gonna be a sports medicine doctor)
-cheapest (considering the economy right now, could be a big factor)
-did not get into honors college
-amherst, mass
-has a medical school (about an hour away but it’s associated)
-huge school with huge lecture classes for all the into classes but has a lot of class options, major options, etc
Belmont University
-biochemistry major
$10,000 a year more expensive
-Nashville, TN (far from home) but is this an advantage for shadowing/ volunteering???
-honors college
-really good med school acceptance history (surprised me considering it’s known as a music school but yup class of 2019 has a 100% acceptance rate for those who applied)
-small classes
-8,000 undergrads roughly
please let me know what you think. I am going work to help pay tuition at both schools and definitely take out loans for Belmont and perhaps UMass Amherst.
