I’m looking to apply to UMD as a post-bacc/second degree student in Computer Science after obtaining my first bachelors in Political Science from SUNY Binghamton. I have spoken with CS academic advisors and admissions counselor and they have told me to apply as a transfer student.
I originally enrolled as an engineering student but dropped out after a semester and took mostly gen-ed classes. My first 3 semesters did not go well, to say the least. I was young and lost dealing with numerous personal issues which led to very bad grades. I was able to wake up and consistently get 3.2-3.5 or higher every semester but wasn’t enough as I graduated with a 2.75.
The admissions counselor would not give me a clear answer when I asked about my chances of being admitted. She said the most competitive transfer students are B average student with at least 30 college credits. As a B- average student, do I have any chances of being admitted or do I have a better chance after taking some math and CS classes at a community college before applying?
